Thoughts and prayers Chief. I won't even pretend to know what you are going through, but I think I can speak for everyone when we say we've got your back.

Appreciate the thoughts and prayers. John was married and has a two year old daughter. Can't imagine the hurt they are going through. I was part of the response team that went down to the plant when it was called away. Basically our job is to put the plant in a safe condition and get everyone out of the way for medical to come and respond. They were there in about 3 minutes. CPR was actually started on him within the first minute of him getting shocked by the people he was with. I watched as the paramedics performed CPR. I have never felt so helpless and not in control in my entire life. I watched as they loaded him into the ambulance and drove off. The nuclear community is a small community that is very tight knit. We eat together, stand watch together, do maintenance, everything. We are in many ways seperate from the other departments on the ship. Different watches, duty rotations, training requirements, even pay is different. John and I jumped off the number 3 elevator together this summer while doing a swim call on deployment. Tore up the desert in land cruisers in Dubai. Shared beers in Singapore. Watched football in the CPO lounge at 0200 while at sea. Worked on qualifications. Got in a huge argument about the right way to run the fitness program. Ate breakfast, lunch and dinner together nearly every day for 6 months straight. Worked out together (he kicked my ass, he ran triathalons and marathons). He was liked and respected by all that knew him. He led with an even temperment, with true care and concern for his charges. He was a Chief. He was the guy smiling at 0400 in the morning responding to a drill. Just doesn't seem real that he will not be at work on Monday. Probably a pretty depressing post, but need to get this off my mind. I somehow have to pick my division up off the ground and get them running again this week coming up and I have no idea how I am going to do it. Hell, I don't even know how I am going to get anything done. In memory of EMC(SS/ Diver) John Conyers. Hooyah brother.

So sorry to hear MasterChief.
You should write down / record your thoughts and memories of your fellow chief - so that his daughter may someday look fondly on them.
Did you guys figure out what caused the problem?

Man, not a good weekend for wasteland co-workers. We had a 26 year old kid from our litigation department die in a snowmobile accident yesterday up in Wisconsin. I didn't really know the dude, but my buddy Autolykos recruited him a few years ago.
MCPO - if Uncle Sam doesn't do the Conyers family right and they run into any financial problems, please let us know - we might be a bunch of classless assholes, but we can help 'em out if they are in a pinch.

Count me in as one that would help out as well. His wife will have a hard time right now as will you, but over time she will come to peace and it will be easier to deal with as it will be for yourself, just hang in there, while it won't get better it will get easier, but what really sucks is that his 2 year old will never get to know her daddy and be proud of how he served our country. T's & P's to you and his family.

Really appreciate the kind words and thoughts. I know that a memorial fund is being set up for a scholarship for his daughter, but the details are not final yet. Pretty sure that between SGLI (life insurance we in the service carry) and the Post 9/11 GI Bill, that they will be taken care of. The new GI bill allows benefits to be transferred to spouses and dependant children. I'll post the website/ instructions for donating if anybody is interested. Please, in no way feel obligated to do this because of me. Life is short, take advantage of every moment. Once again, thanks.
