We're fucked. Completely and totally fucked. This guy might win a few ball games here and there, but I can't imagine him going in and getting the kinds of kids we need to win. We're damn near 10 years removed from our last NCAA tourney win and at this pace, it's gonna be another 10 years before we even get back into the tourney unless they expand the shit out of the field.

How many wins did you think the football team was going to have again last year? ;D I wasn't wowed by the name like most people weren't however I also knew going in we weren't going to get one of the name guys that people were claiming would think about coming to Iowa. Time will tell but I have a better feeling about this guy then I did Lick when he came here. I also don't over look the fact that he wanted to come to Iowa over staying close to where he is now and looking at the St. John's or Seton Hall job. I think that says a lot about what he thinks he can do at Iowa.

Hopefully our Mac will work out better than ISUcks's Mac.
I'll withhold judgment until I see what happens on the court.

After hearing what he had to say in his PC, I think he sounds like he knows what he is getting himself into and said all the right things.
Love how he mentioned the former players and what Iowa basketball once was and CHA being full and what a great place it can be when full.
If he follows through with what he says I have a good feeling things can and will be turned around.

I agree he said all the right things, but moreso, he said them with conviction. It did not appear to be simple "coachspeak." I am excited about the prospects. We will see.
And at least he had the foresight to look up Tom Brands and mention him in the presser.

My 24 hour cooling off period has ended and I am done bashing the guy. I'm just a little disappointed because the hires seem to get progressively worse and this guy's resume is nowhere near the following B10 coaches' resumes:
Izzo Weber Painter Matta Ryan Smith Beilein Crean
Our only hope is for there to be another class like the class that included Horner, Brunner and Haluska (he had to redshirt when he transferred) that all go to Iowa and are rounded out with some stud out of state recruits. Tom Davis finished outside the top 5 in the B10 3 times in 13 years, but when I look at our program and the coaches at the other programs, I just don't see any way this guy is going to get us back into that strong second tier position we were in during the Davis era where we were generally around 3rd to 5th in the conference and made the tourney more often than not. Hopefully, by being able to promise instant PT, he can land a few studs and hopefully Lick's guys are athletic enough to play his style of ball.
Part of me thinks that if you are planning to fire a guy like Lick, you better have a helluva replacement picked out and this guy, at least right now, seems a little "meh."

Who did you honestly think they could land? Pearl? Phil Jackson?

Who did you honestly think they could land? Pearl? Phil Jackson? I thought GarBar would have had someone lined up who would bring some instant buzz to the program. I don't know who they could land, obviously the job now is so shitty, we have to go to the fucking MAAC to find coaches. I misunderestimated how bad the Iowa job is now. I assume GarBar did the same. The good news for McCaffery is that the program really can't get that much worse than it is now, so the bar to improve isn't really too high.

Okay, a bit more than 24 hours and I feel better about this hire. He's a step up from Lickliter but still.... one would hope.
I am planning to attend a game or two this coming season. Hopefully several thousand will do the same and help speed up the healing process of Iowa basketball.

Well, Manny Harris is officially going pro, that alone should let us beat Michigan at Carver, assuming they come to Carver.

Word is is that Jess Settles or Kenyon Murray may be tabbed for an assistant coaching gig. Smart move to bring back fan favorites on the coaching staff. He must make the connection to better days at CHA and this could be a start.

Say what you want but turning 3 programs into winners is pretty impressive.

The simple fact that Kenyon is black will help way more with recruiting than having purebred cracker Jess Settles. Also, who gives a shit about fan favorites when it comes to the coaching staff. If our fanbase is that dumb to rally around a player that was here ten years ago, they are truly living in the past (understandably so). I'd much rather have assistants that can appeal to recruits outside of our fanbase (and state) than have a player who has been out of the game for ten years on the sideline just to give fans some sense of familiarity with a better situation that existed over 10 years ago. Let's not forget that the fanbase were the ones who played a large part in ousting Dr. Tom, thinking getting a young coach like Alford would put us in the top tier of the Big Ten.

I'd rather it be Kenyon too, but not because he is black, but because he is still around the game more, I think. That and Jess is a small town Iowa guy. Players care more about where they are playing and time and touches than whether there is another black dude on the staff. If having another black guy that important to them they are probably too stupid to be good basketball players anyhow.

At least his wife is hot. When she can keep her mouth shut (like most women). I hear she has a problem with that. I guess Iowa bball will at least be interesting again. I wonder what the tv announcers will say when we can hear her on the airwaves bitching out the officials?

This is Iowa basketball, after all.

The overall staff looks fine. I'm not popping a boner over the latest hire.
Dude is a mid-major coach at best.

Sure Dillard may not have had success as a head coach but he isn't coming to Iowa as the head coach anyway. He has a shitload of AAU connections and 90% of college basketball is recruiting, something Dillard is good at.

The basketball program is fucked. Football will win 3 fucking games when Kweefe calls a god damned idiotic play that sends Stanzi right into the best AZ defensive player's arms and he'll get injured and miss the whole fucking season. Remember how bad we fucking sucked the last time we were ranked highly going into the season? Ferentz will piss it down his leg. But the suckitude of the football team will be miniscule compared to the suck of the basketball team, which will probably lose to Coe or Buena Vista or whatever other shitbag school they play in exhibition.
