In this thread, please post your favorite memories about back when Iowa basketball was relevant.
1) First game after Chris Street died
2) Wade Lookingbill's banked in three pointer to beat Michigan
Ah, those were the days, back when we could beat top tier B10 teams.

#1--Being one of 15K people, every game, in the old field house and watching coaches like Knight, Heathcoat, Keady and players like Magic, Isiah and McHale. Watching Iowa players in person such as Lester, Waite, Brookins, Sky King.
#2--Greeting the Iowa BB team at the old field house after they came back from the 1980 regional final in Philly after knocking off G'Town...at midnight.
#3--Watching Lute storm up and down the sidelines, putting the fear of God into the refs.
#4--My first three years at Iowa, BB was the game...FB was more of a social hour.

James Moses last second shot to beat Indiana in Bloomington. It was a CBS national game.

Chris Kingsbury's nearly half court 3 pointers and hearing about him getting in trouble.
Woolridge was my favorite player of all time at Iowa. I got the chance to get to know him a little too when he was playing in Europe, really nice dude.

We could probably start another thread on favorite Chris Kingsbury (King of Beers) stories.

I'm torn on Kingsbury. I have fond memories of him when I was a kid watching basketball, but hung out with one night and he was a major doucher. He was wasted (surprise) and I had to tell him to stop flirting with my wife, even after she told him to stop.
That was kind of a surreal situation. Hopefully he's gotten his shit together.

My favorite Kingsbury story is 2nd-hand. The morning before a Iowa/Indiana game at Carver a friend of mine was at the Kum & Go on Riverside Drive (right next to the hill). It was about 9:30am and game time was 1pm. He is buying smokes at the counter when Kingsbury walks up behind him with a 12-pack of Bud Heavy. My buddy looks at him and said something to the effect of "Don't you have a game later". According to my buddy, Kingsbury just grinned at him, paid for the beer and left.

We could probably start another thread on favorite Chris Kingsbury (King of Beers) stories. I saw Kingsbury, with his wife, pushing a baby in a stroller down the main drag in Estes Park, CO in 2000 when I was staying there to climb Longs Peak. A little different from the chain-smoking boozer I used to see at the Airliner. Fucker could shoot though.

He was stumblin' ass drunk at Beach Girls with dollar bills hanging from hit hat, pulled up to sniffer's row. Now, THAT doesn't make him a douchetard. Him hitting on my wife after she repeatedly told him to stop made him a douchetard. I'm sure he was used to pulling a lot of pussy, and probably didn't get told 'no' a lot. But respect another man's woman. He was a light's out shooter, though.

I agree on Woolridge, that guy was fun to watch! Mine would be getting autographs from BJ Armstrong, Brad Lohaus, Roy Marble, and Kevin Gamble at a charity event at my mom's old high school, Southeast Warren, when I was like 7. I still have that paper somewhere.
