Tell me that Iowa fucking basketball isn't as shitastic as I fear it is. Come on. I know some of you fuckers are in the Fran McCaffery ass lickers society. Please reassure me that this guy knows what he is doing.

I want Lick back... Seriously. No, you don't. Listen I also was in the give Lick one more year camp but Fuller was clearly leaving if Lick came back, he had already made up his mind to move back closer to home when Lick got the ax. As for Larson, I say good riddance any kid that is selling prescription meds in HS just doesn't seem like he will do well when he gets a little farther away from home and is on his own. Brust is a lose, but I say if guys don't want to play here then fuck em. Plus this allows Fran to bring in his guys or guys that fit his system rather then spot up shooters that can't shoot better then 30% when they get to Iowa. Next year is going to be a repeat of this year but I think Fran knew what he was getting into before taking the job, which is something I don't think Lick did.

If Fuller was out either way that is fine. At least we still have our best two recruits and are better next year and can continue getting better. We just took two more steps back from what we thought couldn't get any worse. Bitch all you want about Lick but the slower pace kept Iowa in games when they were clearly over matched. If Fran really wants to run with the roster we have returning things are going to be uglier.

Amen dug. Lick had a system - it's the system Butler ran that kept the score down and attempted to keep an undermatched team within a few possessions of a better team the whole game to give his team a chance to win. It was boring to watch when we were losing, but if we rode that system to 20+ wins a year, I could get used to it. Fucking Fran doesn't have a fucking system. Telling a bunch of semi-athletic kids to "run the court" with Minnesota, MSU and OSU is a recipe for fucking disaster. We're fucked. Bring back god damned Alford or Lickliter. Football and basketball will be lucky to have a combined 10 wins against BCS conference schools (with most of those coming from football).

I cosign your first sentence itheus. Very lucid and clear. Your second sentence, on the other hand, makes no sense. I actually like to watch the Hawks every now and then in BB, but if they suck as bad as they have for the past few years, I won't even travel to Evanston to see them play.

If Fran really wants to run with the roster we have returning things are going to be uglier. Dug, Lick would have been gone after next year anyway, I don't see (now) what giving him one more year would have done. If Larson and Brust weren't happy with the coaching change they would have left after next year when Lick would have been fired anyway so I guess I don't see why not start from scratch a year earlier and give the new coach a better chance of bringing in some of his own guys to fit his system. Look I am not saying Fran is the answer (or will be) but if Lick didn't get fired this year he would of next year I don't see the big difference, throw in the fact that Lick and where the program was at was only going to continue to lose fans and decrease ticket sales.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I won't care about Hawkeye basketball again until we are at no less than .600 going into the Big Ten season. I'm sure as hell not going to speculate this is what will happen next year.

Lifetime Hawkeye basketball fans began not to care. This was the first year I would turn off a Hawkeye BB game to watch something else. I've never done that before. Barta did the right thing. Will White Magic Fran be the answer? For the program's sake, I hope so, but it is TBA

Apathy is the death knell for any fan-driven enterprise.
That's why Lickliter had to go. As I mentioned on Miller's site, we knew that Lickliter was gone the day the rumors started precisely because the rumors of Lick's demise had caused a surge of energy in the fan base not seen since Horner and Brunner were teeing up the Big Ten.

Agreed, I can say that I don't think I posted or visited any Iowa BB board more then a couple of times during the season, but was all over them after Lick was given the Ax. Sure that might of been a bit of wanting to see what people said but at least a part of it was the hope for something new and better was in store for the program. As for the number of Iowa BBall games I watched from start to finish this year. maybe one or two and most of the games were a complete after thought for me something I can say never happened back in the day. Translate that to where the football program is at now, can any of us imagine a time where you didn't care if you missed a game or didn't even make an effort to watch?

I am admittedly not a big basketball fan, but I have always watched Hawkeye basketball when available. I loved when the BTN starter up because I could watch most of the games down here. For me to not watch one minute of one game this season is really kind of sad.
Football? I was at Biketoberfest and left my wife and the couple we were there with at breakfast to go sit in the hotel room for three hours and watch the Wisconsin game. And I will watch wrestling on a computer monitor.
