So the company that my wife works has basically eliminated her job (due to the sale of some of their assets in the area) she was given a couple of options:
#1 Take a demotion and keep her current pay with more travel (they told her it would be a short term deal 6-12 months) at that point her only option would be to move out of state. (We live in IC)
#2 Take a promotion, $20K pay increase, profit only partner (VP said staying with company for 15-20 years should be worth around $1M) pay moving expenses, give us a place to live for a year until we sell our current house, but move to College Station, TX.
#3 Already offered a job with another company doing the exact same thing that she does now with a $10K pay increase and would have to travel a few days a month to Chicago.
We decided to choose option #3. The only reason we even considered option #2 was money and it just didn't seem like the right time to move that far away from our support system having 3 month old twins in the picture.
On top of that I would have to start 100% from scratch with my business and more then likely would have had to make a complete career change if we did move.
Thoughts?

With the twins, 3. No brainer.

#3 sounds like the best option. Although I was going to say #2, just because I like saying #2.

If it was my choice, given my situation, #2 is the option. But in your situation, especially with young children, I think you clearly made the right decision.

#3 is clearly the correct choice.

Yeah, that one is a no brainer, #3.

4. Put the kids to work.
jk - It sounds like you made the right choice. If not, you will either not know you chose incorrectly... or you will deal with what comes up.

Nobody with kids should ever consider moving to Texas, where the crackpot state Board of "Education" has, and I am not fucking making this up, deleted Thomas fucking Jefferson from its new textbooks because he was ostensibly too "liberal."
For those of you who may have forgotten, Thomas Jefferson wrote the fucking Declaration of Independence. He's why there is an America.
So for me that would take #2 off the table immediately. Fuck Texas.

Clearly #1 wasn't an option. #2 would be a good choice if you didn't have to worry about your own career and the twin infants (shudder). I believe you made a great decision. I wouldn't want to move away from IC either. I can't wait to move the 20 miles south back there from Cedar Rapids.

You know what's funny Dug is I lived in CR for the past 14 years before moving back to IC a couple of years ago, and as close as they are there is a HUGE difference between the two which I assume is what you were getting at.

We live in Coralville and love our house and where we live but if we could do it over again we would have looked harder in North Liberty, a lot younger community with a lot of younger families with kids.

I'm fucking amazed at how North Liberty has exploded in the past few years. Shit, back in ought three, the only thing in NL worth going to was Gus' but now there is all kinds of shit up there and the housing is cheap as hell. I saw a job posted in IC and proposed it to the ol' lady a few months ago and she told me no fucking way. Even when I told her we could buy a house outright with our savings now, she cratered that shit. As much as I love Chi-town, I'm a little jealous of you dudes who get to live there.

My lady wants us to move out to the 'burb in Illinois eventually. I'll fight it with all I've got. My ideal place is probably North Liberty.
