Is it hard for you to ask for one? I bring this up for a few reasons. Ive been working at the same place now for 5 years. I haven't got a raise. I make minimum fucking wage. Now, a buddy of mine is asking me if I would want to move into his apartment with him because his roommate is moving down to Arizona at the end of May. I need to give him an answer really really soon. The kicker is now, hes going to be moving to Michigan come the fall, so I would be kinda screwed there with the apartment and then would have to find some to fill the lease with me. It's either going and getting a second job, which I should have already done or going and asking for a raise or just flat out go find another job.
For me, I find it hard to go asking for a raise. Not sure why, just kinda think about it and never do.
What do you say when you go ask for one? Is it easy for you to?

Probably should mention that rent would be 340 per person. Plus electric and Mediacom.

Im not going to leave my work without having another job. A couple months ago I was told that they where going to look into a raise for me, and still nothing.

Minimum wage and you're afraid to leave?
First off, it's a shitty fucking company if they are paying you minimum wage, have paid you minimum wage for 5 years, and refuse to offer a raise.
Listen closely:
YOU ARE BEING EXPLOITED.
Get the fuck out of there. Tell them you'll take twice what you're making or you're gone. Finding a backup job that pays more than minimum wage is not difficult.
Why are you still there anyway? Five fucking years treated like that? Rise up.

Hold on, no one has asked what he does. Maybe he's a porn star or something where there is some huge benefit to the job aside from the pay.

When I was in college we worked for minimum wage but we also got free food and booze so it paid for itself pretty easily. Thunder is right though, unless you have some sweet fringe benefits get the fuck out of there. If you don't learn to not get taken advantage of while you are young you will get walked on for the rest of your life.

I would go find another job. The fact the company has paid you minimum wage for 5 years and is just now "looking into" giving you a raise is a fucking joke.

Agree 100%, What the hell job still only pays the minimum? If you can read, write, and can speak English you sure as hell should be able to find a job that pays more then minimum wage.

I would think the worst thing they could do is say 'no'. It might be good practice for you to go in and sell yourself on getting a raise (though you SHOULDN'T have to sell yourself after 5 fucking years).

Show them this thread when you go and ask!! Seriously though dude, I woulda been gone years ago. Don't play the game. "The Game" is when corporations fuck their employees and find the ones who won't fight back. It's played everywhere every day.
