Binns Hawkeye defensive end Broderick Binns has been arrested on a drunk driving charge.
Binns, who lives on Woodside Drive, was pulled over by University Heights Police just before 1am Friday near the corner of Benton Street and Greenwood Drive. According to arrest records, Binns drove his 2003 Dodge Durango straight through a left turn lane. He was also pulled over due to an equipment violation.
At first Binns denied drinking, then admitted to having several drinks. He was also wearing a bar wristband indicating that he was of legal age, despite the fact that he is only 20 years old.
The Saint Paul, Minnesota native showed multiple signs of intoxication and had a blood alcohol concentration of .101…just over the legal limit for driving. He’s charged with Operating While Intoxicated.
Binns was listed as a first-team defensive end following spring practice. He started all 13 games at defensive end for the Hawkeyes last season, recording 27 solo tackles, 36 assists and ten tackles for loss.
Wonder what Sally Mason is thinking about now?

I am so tired of these stupid motherfuckers with their free rides through life that can't keep their shit straight for a couple of years. Fucking morons.

Well at least Daniels will be getting some well deserved playing time. And I feel for the Arizona tackle that has to face him after his two game suspension.

Assuming he acts like a saint for the next few months, I doubt it will be more than a couple of games.

It was a very stupid thing to do...but I can't cast stones - I've done stupid things, especially at that age. Hopefully this will be a good learning lesson for him.

Again, the guy who is .101 isn't stupid. The guy who is .151 is stupid. The guy who drives through University Heights at .101 is also stupid. Shit, me and barber used to roll several miles out of our way to avoid UH because they will literally pull anybody over who drives through at 1 AM. .101 ain't drunk, but fucking MADD has convinced everybody that the .101 driver is a threat to society, which simply ain't true.

His BAC was actually .097 per the police report.
Not that it should matter, but can't help but think that a few years ago he would have only gotten a traffic ticket.
If anything, this all shows that athletes in general are pretty stupid.

Agree with Thunder. Multi million dollar contracts are at stake in his life. Time to live at the monestary when not playing football. Nights out are stupid for those that have something like that at stake. Add in the fact that everyone gets told umpteen million times not to do it and the frustration mounts.

Well I'm sure in retrospect he would agree with you too. But remember, we're talking about young fella here. Everywhere he goes, he's 'the man'. Had a bad day? Go to the bars where people worship and are sure to pick up the tab for some drinks.
Am I saying it's right? Fuck no. I'm just saying I can possibly understand his mindset. Drive home? He's probably got a bit of that invincibility juice flowin'...so why not?? I think a lot of the young uns' have that "it won't happen to me" mindset.
Again, it's stupid. But when I was that age, the cops were laughing material. Until I got my DUI. : )
It straightened me up, and I hope the same for Binns.

I think people forget that these kids are really kids (18-22). Kids get drunk and do stupid shit. Relax a bit.

He will be reinstated by the time conference roles around. He will be going to counseling and doing community service hours which will all be monitored by the Athletics department.

I wouldn't drink a drop if I had NFL talent. I think we can all say that now but when you are actually that age and in school things are a little different.
