Okay, need some advice here. Just a little while ago, I drove down the main street of our neighborhood and there was a dead cat (hit by a car) in the middle of the street about 2 blocks from our house. This cat looked like a pet, not just some stray.
I don't recognize the cat as belonging to any of the neighbors that we know, but still... I know it had to belong to someone near by.
My delema is this: as an owner of several animals (including cats) I felt like I should have done something. I wasn't the one who hit it, but I still felt like I should have stopped and moved it to the side of the street or something. But first off, where would I move it? To the curb? That's not a whole lot better than it being in the middle of the street. Move it onto someone's lawn? That's not really fair to whomever's lawn I move the cat too.... especially if they happen to be the cat's owners. And then, what if I am seen moving the cat? Naturally, it will be assumed that I was the one who hit it.
At this point, I've decided to let the cat be for now, check in the morning to see if it is still there and if so, call the county and have them deal with removing it. Is this the best strategy?

I would have backed up and ran over it again just to make sure it was dead.

If you run over it enough times you won't even be able to tell that it's a cat so just circle the block about a dozen times.

Update: the cat was gone today when I drove by so someone must have come and got it.

I came home once to my cat being "hung" by the neck from the garage door.
The cat, unknowingly to us, had a habit of getting on top of the garage door when the door was up. (to keep warm maybe???) When the door was up, the cat would jump up from the top of the car onto the garage door, between the door and the ceiling of the garage and just chill out up there, there is probably a 1.5 foot gap.
When my family left for the day and closed the door via remote as we drove away, the cat either fell, or tried to run out of the gap in the garage door as it closed, but the cat didnt time it correctly. The result was that the cat got caught between the garage door and the top of the Garage door frame.....squish.
I dont know if i explained the set up and sequence properly to some who has to read this, think of it this way. IF you put a racquet ball on the top of your garage door and then closed the door, the momentum of the door would cause the ball to roll down and fall outside the garage as the door closes.
The end result the cat on the outside of the garage hanging on the door with the door closed by the neck, it was fucking deadier than dead.
That sucked to come home to.
Disclaimer: after this event our family stayed around until the door closed to make sure that no other animals met death by garage door.

On a side note, I think this girl I'm talking with (the one with the kid) is the real deal so my stories of banging random chicks may very well be dying off soon.
