Any of you dudes do P90X?
My birthday is coming up soon and I am thinking about asking the wife for this.
However, I understand that you are supposed to work out six days a week for 90 days. Not to sound like I am making excuses, but I could probably only work out 4 days a week on this max. More often than not, just 3 days a week. Work and family just don't allow for 6 days a week every week.
This being said, I WILL be doing things like cardio boxing and taekwondo two days during the week, so I figure this might kinda make up a bit of ground I might lose by not doing the P90X every day that I should.
I also know this program costs $120, but I'm sure my wife can find it cheaper on E-Bay or Craigslist or some shit so that's not really an issue. I just mostly want to know if this will be worth my time if I cannot absolutely commit to 6 days a week for 3 months.

I was in great shape about 10 years ago. I drank no booze and had a regimented 4 days a week of lifting, 1 day a week of heavy cardio and abs. I ate the same shit every day, 4 eggs on wheat bread, yogurt and a banana for breakfast, tuna wrap, banana and apple for lunch, apple and protein drink for snack and two chicken breasts and wings or sushi for dinner (this place by my apartment sold whole rotisserie chickens for $5 a piece and me and my bro would each buy one almost every day and throw away the dark meat). I had one cheat meal of pizza or something built in on my cardio and ab day. Then I fucking moved to Japan and the gym didn't have any free weights and I started drinking and it all went to shit.
I think if you work out 4 days a week with a good mix of lifting and cardio, don't drink booze and watch your diet like a fucking hawk, you can get into pretty good shape in 3 to 6 months. The hard part is the fucking diet, that shit makes or breaks your body. You can fucking workout like all hell but if you have a weakness for ice cream and pizza and shit, you ain't gonna lose any weight. Intuitively, you probably know what exercises to do and how to eat, I don't see any reason to give some schmuck a hundred and twenty fucking bucks to tell you how to exercise and tell you not to eat deep fried cheese curds.

I have the same thoughts as BTR, I thought about buying P90X but I couldn't bring myself to pay. I'm lucky and have free access to the physical therapy gym where I work. I go in every morning at 5:30 and do cardio, weight training and then I do crunches and push ups at home every night. I'm also following a strict diet of whole foods, veggies, fruits and tons of water, I've created a daily calorie deficit and count calories. It sucked when I started this plan, especially cutting out the beer but after a month it's become routine, it's addicting, especially when you start seeing results. I'm still gonna drink beer, especially during tailgating, but no drinking at home anymore.

Pretty much all you have to do is eat right, eat carbs but not too much, eat fat but not too much, eat a shitload of protein, and burn more overall calories than what you eat. Do this with a bunch of small meals throughout the day. The diet and exercise regimen depends heavily on cutting weight vs. building muscle. If your goal is to do both, you would be best off starting with a good weight loss program, then switching more toward building muscle, then finding a happy medium between the two. As long as you aren't hell bent on looking like the Gubernator or a triathlete you can find a good weight to be comfortable with. Once you get there you will have to eat like a bitch 4 or 5 days out of the week but if you keep busy with both cardio and resistance training you can maintain without looking like a quick fix prole and still enjoy the finer things in life like a cold microbrew and a porterhouse two or three days out of the week.
The biggest problem I have with this is that I'll go a few weeks balls out and feel great. Then, I'll say to myself, "Nice Job!" and start giving in to temptations. Once this happens I'll get back on track. It's kind of a delicate balance but not overly hard to achieve and I do believe that if people worked out as much as they should and kept a somewhat keen eye on their diet the nation could, for the most part, thwart the nagging effects of a national obesity and mental health crisis. I don't give a shit what any pill popper says, the benefits of sweating your ass off for no real reason is more beneficial for 90% of the population than being doped up on than whatever psychiatric medications are being prescribed.

Not P90x but I have started Insanity by the same company a couple of weeks ago. I downloaded a torrent file for it so I didn't pay anything. I have heard that the hardest workout on P90x is like an off day of Insanity. I will say the first week was pretty brutal. I was sore after the fitness test on the first day. I did most of the workouts the first week, but a couple of days I played basketball instead. The second week I didn't do any of the workouts because I fucked my back up. Insanity doesn't require any equipment, just your body. I have noticed results just from the first week. I felt much better and quicker playing basketball. I did the super hard workout that I thought was going to make me puke again yesterday (after nearly a week off mind you) and it was much easier, but not to the point that I could still keep up. It is hard as hell, and almost brings me back to the mornings of 2-a-days from high school football where we were worked so hard I couldn't untie my shoes because my fingers were numb.
In general I've been eating better, but not really adhering to any real diet. I will say it is much easier to eat better if you are doing a workout that really pushes your limits. Eating 5 meals a day is pretty much impossible for me, and there are definitely days where I struggle to get in even 1200 calories (nothing for a 215 lb, man who is decently active), so if I could be more consistent with my eating I could probably lose more. I'm very excited to do the 2nd week fitness test to see how much I have improved. I would definitely recommend this program, but don't pay for shit you can download for free.

Well, my goal is mostly to improve my cardio and also to build muscle and muscle tone. Essentially, I want it all.
I used to have it back in the day when I was single and had all kinds of time to work out. Now that I am married with kids, it's not the same.
Basically, I want a workout that will make me look and feel younger. Actually, I have been feeling pretty young for my age (knees and back feeling good for once), but I would like to improve the look of the bod as well.
Damn. I just wish I could have been born with super-athlete genes like BTR. Dude's a freak of nature!

I started to download P90x but decided to go with insanity because I didn't need to buy a pull up bar or free weights. The Insanity workouts are ~35 minutes, so not too long at all.

Back in April/May I found out that I have a herniated disc. I went through physical therapy, and there were some valuable things learned. However my back would still be awful some days. I felt like I was in a catch 22 because I couldn't hardly do anything workout wise. Like Poncho, I have muscle, just buried under a lot of fat. SO, I took up this scientific fad called counting calories. I've lost 25-30 pounds in two months, and my back feels much better.
I do some low intesity swimming as well...but most of it has just been calorie counting. I have one day a week (usually Saturday) where I can eat whatever the fuck I want. Outside of that...game on.

I don't know where your herniation was or what you were experiencing for symptoms were, but besides the normal everyday discomfort that is always going to be there, and I am used to, when it really flares up again I find that it is when I haven't been as active. Core strengthening is essential.

Lower left back. 3-4 weeks ago I was pretty convinced that surgery would be my route...but man it really hasn't been too bad for the last 2 weeks. Hopefully this trend continues. I'm not completely pain free and still have bad days, but I can get buy with taking ibuprofen a couple times a day. All of my exercises I do are all meant for the core muscles, not the vanity muscles (haha...Always Sunny reference). I walk and swim...I HAVE to do these exercises because other then that my lifestyle would be completely sedentary.

Any radiating leg pain or is it all back pain? My leg pain is pretty much all gone at this point, unless the weather does something. I do have some permanent damage to the nerve though as my herniation was pretty severe. For one my calf muscle is permanently twitching, no matter if I am doing anything or at rest. It is weird looking down and seeing the muscle move, almost like there is something crawling just under the skin.
I think if you can avoid surgery you should do so. It really should be a last resort if more conservative techniques don't give you any relief. In my opinion PT is the way to go (but I am biased as someone who is looking to get into PT). Unfortunately it did not work for me.

I used to get shooting pains down my leg in the sciatic nerve, but that's really subsided. Only on my worst days do I get pain down the leg like I used to.
I never really had any numbness to start. Never had problems pissing like some people do. So I don't think it's as severe as others. One thing is for sure, though...if I go back to the doctor, I'm going to a different guy. This dude can't tell me jack shit. He couldn't even tell me if it was bulged or ruptured. I have no idea how severe it is...all he says is, "it's herniated, that's all they need to know" (when talking about the PT's). Red fucking flag.
My physical therapy people were awesome though.

herniated/bulging/ruptured all the same. That's completely condtradictory to what I've been told from 3 physical therapists. Also from WebMD: "The bones (vertebrae) that form the spine in your back are cushioned by round, flat discs. When these discs are healthy, they act as shock absorbers for the spine and keep the spine flexible. If they become damaged, they may bulge abnormally or break open (rupture), in what is called a herniated or slipped disc. The jellylike material (nucleus) inside the disc may be forced out through the tears or cracks in the capsule, which causes the disc to bulge, break open (rupture), or break into fragments." From that statement it would seem that a herniated disc can mean bulged or ruptured, but they are not the same thing. The PT's said that the exercises they chose depend on whether it's bulged or ruptured.
