Questions: 1. Have you been to Sturgis? 2. Have you seen the show on Travel Channel called "Sturgis Cops"? 3. Assuming 'yes' to both of the above, what is your opinion of the portrayal of Sturgis bike week on this show? TIA.

I went to Sturgis once in the late-70's when it was only about 30,000 - 40,000. The rallies got huge once the fat-ass boomers decided it was alright to trailer their bikes instead of actually, you know, riding them. I have not been there since the crowds have swelled to over 500,000. I caught part of that show once and it seemed okay. I go to Daytona twice each year (Biketoberfest and Bike Week). We have a great time.
What are you asking, exactly?

However, if you haven't attended recently, it's pretty unfair of me to assume you know the answer. Never mind....

The campgrounds at Sturgis are the stuff of legend with the debauchery and all, especially after dark.
As for the main stuff, I would assume it is like any other rally - you will see the following types:
1) hard-core 1%-ers (usually minding their own business) 2) actual long-term bikers with a lot of miles under our butts (rode to the rally - me) 3) weekend warriors playing dress-up in their biker costumes (expensive bikes/no skills/no miles - may have a tattoo somewhere to show they are real bikers to their buddies) 4) sport bikers convinced they are actually the cool ones in the crowd 5) older riders, on either Gold Wings or Ultra Classics, that ride long distances 6) guys on metric cruisers wearing Harley gear (these guys never fail to crack me up) 7) sight-seers in cars with the windows up and the A/C on, sometimes with kids 8) freaks - more of these at motorcycle rallies than anywhere else now that the Dead are done
1) and 2) get along well and really just stare at everybody else, enjoying the show. Rallies are awesome places to people watch - lots of drunken idiots everywhere.
