So I sold a text book via Amazon and shipped it via media mail - USPS. the book never arrived, apparently the book and the wrapper/ envelope got seperated. The post office didn't update the website however to show their was damage. 20 fucking phone calls, 3 complaints to the website and about 2 weeks later I finally get notified what is going on after tracking down Dennis in Detroit, Darlene's postal fucking job supervisor, and explain the situation. After basically being accused of making up the messages I left, the guy asks me to send him a link to show him the book. I do that, hopefully I'll get some help in getting the book back. Meanwhile, I am going to be out the money I made for the book because the fucking buyer has stated she didn't get it in time and had to buy a new one, not that I blame her one bit. sold the fucker for 83 bucks in brand new condition, wonder what it will look like when I get it back. also, wonder if I can reship to the buyer and stiff her the 83 bucks since I am not fucking responsible for the post fucking office fucking up the fucking shipment and she is too fucking stupid to fucking figure out how to submit a freaking claim.
Vent over.
Anybody else had trouble with the post office? those fucking tards got a racket of epic proportions going on. They screw up your shit and if you didn't buy the insurance, they stiff you the delivery.

I had my new phone delivered last week. It thought it might get to me on Saturday, it did now. Now mind you that would have been day 3 of priority shipping (stated 2-3 days). I wasn't too ticked that it was going to come on Monday now. So I wait around all day (well, between 2 and 5 as that was the time between school and work) The website tracker says the package will arrive Monday. Mail comes at 3:30, no package. I call them to ask why it didn't come. Guy tells me he enters the tracking number and can't find anything. He tries again and finds the number saying it is still on the truck. I told him the mail was already delivered but my package didn't show up. Then he states that he had split our route so it might be on the other truck. I again told him that our mail had already been delivered. He says, "that is weird, I don't know what to tell you. Call back if you don't get it tomorrow." So I decide that isn't satisfactory, and leave early to go to the PO before work. I take in the screen print off the website with tracking number and the statement that delivery is scheduled for that day. Lady at the post office states that the item is on the truck but it is not back to the PO yet. I decide that maybe the guy on the truck just fucked up and missed it somehow, whatever, we are all human and I don't need my phone right this second. So when I get off work I call my GF like normal and she says that my phone came at 6pm. We got 2 separate deliveries that day one at 3:30 and the next at 6pm, what the hell is that.
Also, I am expecting all of my textbooks for this semester today. I spent $196 on Anatomy, the bookstore sells a package "deal" for $347. I spent $14 on my other class, the bookstore charges $76 used. My total spent includes shipping costs.

A couple of things: #1. Fed Ex #2. And people wonder why those fuckers are losing money hand over fist. #2a. shocker, it's run by our government. At work, we ship and receive hundreds of UPS packages a day. UPS fucks up a lot too, let me tell ya. I once was waiting for this guy's title to come to me. UPS lost the fucker. Same shit as stated above, tracking said it arrived, nope didn't have it. Well lo and behold, about 10 days later it arrives at my desk. The package seriously looked like it had been run over by a forklift. It even had grease smears/stains on it. Thank God the title itself was fine inside the package. The moral of the story is... yeah, the postal service sucks but UPS and Fed Ex ain't perfect either.

I'll have to second using FedEx. We use them to ship around a hundred or more checks every day and in nearly 4 years I haven't seen them fuck up unless it was due to shitty weather.

Oh, just got a piece of mail today that was stuffed into a USPS envelope that had print on the back that basically said "As your postal manager we apologize for damaging your mail. We know your mail is important to you, as a result we are expediting this to you". I open the envelope and in it is 2/3 of a mailing from the company that I am rolling an old 401k into that contains my new account verification. No idea where the other 1/3 of the letter is. I looked over it quickly to try and decided in any important info was missing such as account #s. I don't think there is but I am calling the company tomorrow to have them send out another copy. Perhaps I'll just ask them to send out the large triangle shaped area in the middle right of the mailing that the USPS decided to keep.

They all suck. We have to use FedEx to ship samples to our lab and I can't tell you how bad they have fucked up things from time-to-time. You are at the mercy of the local office and their competency.
The post office returned a birthday card I sent because it was 1/8" too tall (it was more square than usual, but not larger) and a package that I was sending doubled in price because of size even though it was very lightweight.
Don't even get me started on the mess that is UPS.

We got one of our X-mas cards returned to us on Monday. That would be about 2 months after it was originally sent and oh by the way it was going from Coralville to Cedar Rapids.

No ebook versions either I bet. Rape! What a fucking racket. As far as going postal, I've never had an issue with any of the carriers, be it USPS, UPS, or FedEx. Probably just dumb luck. I've never been bumped or otherwise significantly inconvenienced by/from a flight either and I fly quite a bit. That for sure is dumb luck.

Buy all of you books online. You will should easily save at least 50%. If you can what I usually do is go to the bookstore a couple weeks ahead of time and see what books are required. Write down the ISBN # if you can, otherwise get the title, author and edition and go to half.com, amazon abebooks.com anywhere pretty much and buy there. I have also bought used copies at the bookstore and used those until the books I buy online come in, then I return them. More often than not I don't even use the books I bought anyhow and I'm carrying a 3.9 and I'm only taking the "hard" undergrad prerequisite science and math classes that I need to get into my program. More than likely your profs will have powerpoint that they either hand out or you can print that makes the books obsolete anyhow.

I've been using bookrenter.com. For a statistics book I needed - $180 at the bookstore, $49.92 to rent. Assuming I could resell the original for around $90, I'm still ahead.

To the original post... it's all in how things are packaged. Those fucking "insulated" envelopes are prone to not making it through the machines... especially with the mass of a book inside. (If you used a box, please disregard this post)
Yes, they accepted your package and ran it through their machine... but you are the one that packaged it and verified its contents.

So tard supervisor Dennis calls today and informs me that the bok is not where he is, only the envelope (goin postal shipped it for me/ next time I box). He is sending me a claim form and a package search request. I am guessing that this book is never going to get returned. Denise still wants her money back. I am trying to get amazon to live up to its promises, hell that is why they get a commission right?
Several of the books I bought were used. I bought the fucking stat book via the bookstore because it had some eline help b.s.. I don't need it though, so plan on selling the whole thing at the end of the semester for about 220 bucks, which I will get. And I'll ship via box. I don't mind paying up front, because I sell in the end and it costs me about 150 bucks at the end of the semester which is all good. The other pissing match I have is when the fucktards at the school decide to get a newer book. Then I get stuck with them. Anyone need a decent humanities book or a musical cultures of the world USF edition? Let me know and I'll hook you up. And yes, fairly sure that about 1/2 my classes I could get by w/o the book.
Ah well, uncle sam is giving me 500 a semester for books anyways, so I guess it is all good.

Add in the low cost of health care and you can see why I smile everyday on the drive to "work". I'll try to get by. thanks for fixing me.
