Any of you dudes (excluding you Southerners) at work today?
My work was only delayed to 10am so I tried to make it. Got 3 blocks and got stuck, turned around and then could not get back up the street to get back in the drive. Took 90 minutes of fucking hand-shoveling the street and having a neighbor help push just to get back in the drive. All schools around here are closed and even several fucking ROADS are closed off. Yet, work continues.
Whatever. I said "fuck this" and called in. My boss is cool with it. Not like he can really say anything since I can't even get out of town.
Any of you other guys have to brave the weather to go to work? I feel your pain if so!

Anyone who feels the need to get out to work today is a moron. Bottom line is that most of the roads are impassable and what's the fuckin' point. No one else is going to be out anyway so stay the fuck home today.

Ma had to stay in a motel downtown with some guys last night so she could make it to work today bince the bank can't close down. She said they set up the rooms two dudes per gal, but I lived in Japan and used the showers over there - I ain't worried about it unless Mandingo, Peter North or Rocco is working for the bank. I ain't going to work, but I'm hoping I can scare up a cup of coffee somewhere.

At my job, some people have laptops to take home but I have always refused one. Mostly because a lot of what I need to do involves either cutting claim checks or being on the phone. I can't cut checks at home and I will be goddamned if I use my personal cell phone to make business calls. Plus, I barely get paid enough to work in the office. I sure as fuck don't get paid enough to bust my ass at home. Fuck that.

The roads are pretty shitty here in Des Moines right now. I'm pretty sure I could make it to work without too big of a problem but it's really tempting to stay home for at least a few hours. I have about a half an hour to make up my mind.
Has anyone in Des Moines been out on the roads this morning?

A co-worker of mine lives in Skankeny and emailed me to say she made it in to work and the roads weren't too bad once she got out of town. But I think she has a 4-wheel drive truck too. My feeling is that if in doubt, stay home. It's not worth being in a ditch. If you're in a ditch, you won't be at work either but at least you are not putting your life in danger sitting at home on the couch.

I just went to the Dunkin Donuts at the train station. Thank god it was open. Interestingly, they had no donuts because the delivery truck couldn't come, but I got the sammich I wanted irregardless and the coffee is clutch. It's still snowing like a bitch here and I will probably just go fucking shovel around the building myself because I don't want one of the old people to fall and break their hip and sue the fucking building and god only knows when the snow guy is coming back. The guy finished snowblowing a little before 8 and there is already about 3 inches of snow on the ground.

We barely had to go under the speed limit from Ingersoll to West Des Moines.

It actually wasn't that bad in Des Moines, some side streets suck which it to be expected, but 35/80 was clean for the most part on my drive at 7:30 this morning, don't expect to drive 70 or 80, but I was cruising right along between 50 and 60.

Pretty much anyone who thinks the roads are bad in Des Moines is just a big pussy looking for an excuse not to go to work.

I went on Ingersoll, Grand, 63rd and a couple other roads and they were pretty much clean. The side streets will probably be clear by the end of the day. If anyone here lives in SE Iowa it would be interesting to hear how those roads were, it sounds like everywhere between there and Chicago is where it's the worst.

I've heard the main roads in Cedar Rapids aren't bad, but I can't go to work because they haven't plowed our street yet. I got stuck trying to get into my driveway last night at 9:30 and snow has only accumulated and compacted bince then so there is no way in hell i'm backing down that fucker until the plow comes and I spend another hour with my fucked up back digging out of the pile left by the plow.
A word of advice for prospective home buyers. Don't buy a house on the east side of the street where your drive faces west. Drifts are a bitch. Thankfully last years empty lot across the street now has a house so the drifting isn't quite as bad as last year.

20.2 inches in Chicago. Snow stopped and temperature dropped 10 degrees. And I'm out of fucking beer. Fuck my life. Oh well, at least reading these stories warms the cockles of my heart: www.chicagoweathercenter.com/severe/chicago-snow/chibrknews-stories-from-lake-shore-drive-20110202,0,3294856.story Sorry dipshits, if you were fucking dumb enough to drive on LSD during fucking rush hour in a terrible blizzard, that's your fucking problem, not the City's. They fucking told everyone not to try it.

I was out busting drifts at 6:45 this morning and made it to work about 5 minutes later than normal.
Go buy a Tahoe already so I don't have to hear you bitch and moan about a little snow.

Yeah, the U is back in the house. Got tired of beating my kids, people started asking questions, plus their boyfriends are bigger than I am, so I found my way back to take my repressed anger issues out on you fucks.
Des Moines is just a typical winter day in early February....but I just saw some iPhone video of Lakeshore drive at 6:30 this morning....
....HOLY FUCK! It looks like a white version of Walking Dead. Who the fuck leaves their car in the middle of LSD. Some towing company operator just made a fucking mint today.

There were two accidents that caused traffic to stop - once it stopped and three to four inches of snow were falling per hour, everyone was shit outta luck. Evanston's fucking buried man. I just went to the liquor store to get some beers and they were fucking closed. Idiots, days like today are when you make a shit ton of bank.

Or are you considering Ma's nail polish remover as a temporary fix? Booze I had in my casa - 1 bottle of Cameron Hughes Lot 140 cab. 3/4 bottle of 1969 Oban. 1/8 bottle standard Oban. 1/2 bottle of swill GlenFiddich that I give to my guests when they come over. I crushed bottle of Cameron Hughes despite fact I was saving it for special occasion - I had bougt case of it as it is clearly a very damn good cab that only became available discounted as Cameron Hughes due to shitty economy. I am praying I can get more, but I fear it is gone forever. But I was fucking desperate and wasn't bout to crack into that 1969 Oban or drink that fucking rotgut Glen. Vin - if you are looking for some wines, here's an article about Cameron Hughes - dude has a fucking masterful business plan of buying good wine, rebranding it under a confidentiality agreement, and making mad bank by selling someone else's excess inventory at a discount. online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704471204575210080165312598.html

Fuckin' Krauts. Buy capacity. No matter the process, just buy it. Regular capacity, excess capacity, whatever. Buy it. Wine, PVC, cheese, flux capacitors, textiles, whatever. If mfg capacity is available, BUY IT. I think there's an ETF. Are you allowed to buy ETFs??

I've heard the main roads in Cedar Rapids aren't bad, but I can't go to work because they haven't plowed our street yet. This. We live on a Cul de sac, which means we get bent over when it snows since it only affects 5 houses we are always the last to get plowed. They plowed the rest of the street into our Cul de sac at about 4PM then brought in the end loader to actually clear one skinny ass path in the actual cul de sac. To make matters worse I have my wife's car an Altima as I had her take my truck to the airport when she left for Denver on Tuesday.

Same here. Plow came at 3:10 though. Probably took him 20 minutes to get off of our street. It then took me an hour to dig out the plow drift and my mailbox which is currently just a door in the middle of a giant pile of snow. I'm curious as to how many tons of snow I manually shoveled the last 2 days.
