In their minds it's okay to restrict an individuals right to information, freedom, etc. But, God forbid you restrict the rights of a religious organization to determine policy, that's facism.

Thunder,
I don't disagree with why Obama feels this way (even though Bill Clinton was the President that signed it) but you do realize he isn't a King and can't just decide what laws that should and shouldn't be defended right?
Isn't that why we have three branches of government?

...and the Attorney General is a part of the Executive Branch, which happens to be Barry's domain.

Thunder, I don't disagree with why Obama feels this way (even though Bill Clinton was the President that signed it) but you do realize he isn't a King and can't just decide what laws that should and shouldn't be defended right? Isn't that why we have three branches of government? This is kind of technical...they still have to enforce the law, but they will not advance the argument that a certain part of DOMA is constitutional (it can't meet the scrutiny test in their legal opinion) in appellate courts. F'n lawyers, right? edit: Here's a rather detailed discussion of the intricacies. prospect.org/csnc/blogs/adam_serwer_archive?month=02&year=2011&base_name=obama_to_stop_defending_doma
