So many people(including me) have been sick as fuck this year. I've had the flu once, and I don't know how many colds......strong colds to boot.
Has anyone else been sick a lot the past year or so?
What do you people do when you're sick? What's your cures, remedies, habits, fixes, etc....?
Anybody take any Homeopathic stuff?
Anyone take Airborne or rely on vitamins and so called "immune system boosters" to stay healthy?
Who here gets a flu shot?
I need Input. I N P U T..........

Wish I could help you here but unfortunately I cannot. Generally other than le cancer which was cut out of my neck four years ago, I have been healthy as a horse for past few years, starting in my mid 50s. No colds, flu, etc., other than what I ate at the local Mexico restaurant, which is run by Guatemalans. Part of it goes with the territory of getting older and presumably having fewer worries. But increasingly I'm outdoors a lot in the sun, which helps; exercise and try to eat better. And Mrs. Tweeter is an elementary school teacher who gets exposed to a whole raft of bad stuff at school and, like other professionals who are around germs and viruses a lot, has developed an immunity to a lot of it. Some of that may have rubbed off on me. Used to get a flu shot annually but haven't for years; have come to see them as largely ineffective and a waste perpetuated by Big Pharma and Big Med. YMMV...

I'm living proof that copious amounts of alcohol kills most germs.

I hardly ever get the flu. Colds though, always kick my ass. I have been dealing with other health issues for about the last five years though. Sever chest pain that randomly comes and goes. Seems to be muscle related but seen a million drs and specialists and have got nothing that helps. Next stop is mayo.

I made it through the winter without catching anything nasty. I take a multivitamin every day, and use airborne when traveling. Try to get plenty of sleep. And Tito's has medicinal qualities, as HFN noted above.

Some srs bullshit sicknesses popping up all ovar the state of Ioway, Ghostofghosts. Whore has srs immunity to super std's, so I'm not surprised at his/her's lack of concern for basic sickness. I drink plenty, heavynuts. Wish it helped. Maybe I need to drink more? ? I remember getting sick when I was in my early twenties, proceeded to get shitfaced two nights later, and it was gone in the AM. Tried what I just said above about three years ago, and it made me about ten times fucking sicker.... Like srs considered ending it all....... I tried Airborne recently, and I finally kicked my cold that had been plaguing me for 2+ weeks.. Coincidence?

I have avoided any sort of sickness this year. I get a flu shot because it is free at work. Oh, I work in a pharmacy so I'm pretty sure I get exposed to all sorts of shit. I'm sure that could have something to do with being healthy. Or I just inhale enough antibiotics on a daily basis as I reconstitute bottles of amoxicillin. Honestly though, I eat my boogers. I think that exposes me to enough small amounts of germs that overtime my immune system has built up.

I too got sick a SHITLOAD this year. I had the fucking flu twice! Who gets the flu twice in the same fucking month? This year was unusual in that mid season we saw one of the minority strains of influenza become the majority strain and the early season majority strain that the vaccine was designed for did not confer immunity for the minority strain that took off later on. That is how you get the flu twice in one season. That being said you prolly didn't get influenza twice, it's was probably a different virus Also for you knuckle dragging dipshits that don't get your vaccination I would remind you that the main purpose of them is NOT to keep your dumbass from getting sick but is in fact to provide herd immunity which protect our vulnerable populations such as children and the elderly you selfish fucks.

Flu aside, the last 3-4 colds I've had over the last 1-2 years have been HARD as fuck to kick for me.
I used to get colds that lasted maybe 4-5 days at the most. I'd get a sore throat that lasted like one day and night, followed by the usual sinus issues for a few days more. Now they slam my ass. Freaking move from throat to nose to head to one ear then the other ear....then maybe back to my nose for a while....
I don't think I've had the flu maybe what, 3 times in my entire life?
Hey, Other. Why the fuck do dipshit doctors prescribe people something like a Z-Pack for things like Bronchitis? From what I understand; most ailments like colds, flu, bronchitis, etc.... are caused by viruses, not?

I started taking airborne while on the road about five years ago, and I believe it helps. It's a small price to pay for an insurance policy. Belt and suspenders, bro.

I just never understood the whole antibiotics for virus treatment thing. Got a cold? Here's some Penicillin. Flu? Here's some Azithromycin.....

People cannot accept the answer 'sorry but there's nothing I can do, you're just going to be sick for awhile'. From the Docs pov I would say that bidness is bidness. They could tell the patient 'sorry you've got a virus - not much I can do.' but that patient will, likely as not, just fuck off to another clinic and that's lost business that won't come back. It's a bitch but good intentions don't pay the bills.

^^This is the correct answer. People cannot accept the answer 'sorry but there's nothing I can do, you're just going to be sick for awhile'. This is A LOT of the reason I'm going into physical therapy. When you go in for physical therapy you pretty much understand that you are going in to do work. If you don't do it you won't get better. I understand that there will be a good number of people who won't want to do it, but tough shit, don't get better then, I can't do anything for you. I had considered going into medicine, but I don't want to be told by patients that don't know shit how to do my job. I also don't want to put up with tweekers and seekers. I saw way to many Rx for a days worth of Lortabs or Percocets when I did my time in Cedar Rapids that it killed that idea.

Maybe Doctors could start putting their fucking feet down? I know I know, then some douche would Rx anyone who walked in, thereby hoarding all the bidness.

And more research is showing that most (80%+, I think) of the ear infections kids get are caused by a virus and will go away on their own within a few days/week anyway. And even one course of antibiotics as a kid can permanently affect your digestive system (since antibiotics kill bad and good bacteria). But doctors see redness in the ear and dole out antibiotics like it's candy. Airborne and stuff isn't worth the money. Eat right, exercise, get some sun and fresh air. And yell at the fucks who go to work when they're coughing and get everybody else sick.

I think it took me well into my upper teens to develop a decent immune system.....from just getting over shit on my own.

Icehide, it has seemed like a bad year for many people I know, to be sick. I have been lucky the last few years in that I haven't really gotten more than a couple colds per year. I used to get sick with some terrible, long lasting colds. My kids and husband would get colds and for whatever reason, they seemed to affect me worse. For some reason though, the last few years, I just haven't seemed to get sick. (I'm probably slowly dying of heart disease or a tumor) I think it's probably due to a few things. My job doesn't involve direct patient care any longer and I'm chained to a desk all day. Exposure to less people leads to less exposure of germs. I have tried to make sure I get enough sleep...like chuck said. I tend to be a night owl so it's difficult for me to go to bed early. Wash your hands frequently. Several years ago, I started a big wash-your-fucking-hands campaign with my family. Drilled it into my kids head that they needed to wash hands after using the bathroom, before eating, etc. I really think this helped, as my youngest two kids have not been as sick as often as my older kids at the same age.
I do get a flu shot. I've had influenza a couple of times and I was really, really sick. Plus, it's free and required where I work. I don't take supplements like Airborne.
