I understand your view, but you also need to remember that we are talking football and something that is a live sporting event. Which is one of the few things on TV (if not the only thing) that most people still watch live. That's a huge deal for advertisers and is why the money train isn't ending anytime soon. What you seem to be missing is the Ohio State's, Alabama's, and Oregon's of the world still have the same 85 scholarship limit as everyone else. Your NFL to XFL comparison doesn't hold up as there are far more quality football players to go around then just the Top 10 schools in the country right now. The scenario you are saying is coming isn't going to be then end all and will never happen the way you lay it out. Those top 15 schools all still need to schedule games and the other "lesser" teams in the conferences will benefit. Don't get me wrong it's a much more realistic situation for ISU than it is Iowa. Not because Iowa doesn't have the same issue being in a low population state but the agreement of the sharing of revenue between all schools. That is something that could really fuck over the Big 12 with how they handled the LHN and Texas. Your point about the MAC is valid however as the gap between the power 5 conferences and the mid major conferences is sure to continue to grow at least when it comes down to money being made. Football is a TV revenue sport, true, but there will come a point when the money is so big, that those making the money won't want to share anymore. There is a reason all Communist systems collapse into themselves. When revenues drop, and maybe they won't drop catastrophically like I have prophesied, but they will drop, will OSU, Michigan, and Penn St feel like sharing money with Northwestern, Rutgers, and Illinois? Delaney has done a good job keeping that from happening, but he won't be around forever. At some point, the makers are going to take their money and run, and the takers, who have been lavishly subsidizing their programs with ridiculous excess (like the South Endzone project), will be stuck, dick in hand. Honestly, the details are irrelevant, and there is just too much money floating around, and soon greed will make the whole thing crash. I think paying coaches 8 million a year could be the catalyst, but maybe it won't be. Something will though. And this super conference of takers will probably start paying players, and the takers of the world will probably struggle to provide scholarships, so the gap between the two will be reeeedonk. The problem wif your argument is it fails to take i to account that OSU needs Iowa. They gotta play somebody. And they are far better off in a conference like the B10 where they can put up 9+ wins every year than they wood a 12 team supercnference where they are a 7-6 kinda program. How is that better than being king of the hill of the b10? I think most people see 8 million to Harbsugh for Wut it is, a desperate attempt by a school wif awfully powerful and wealthy alumni to stay a national brand and power. I guaranfucktee ya this is nothing more than a handful of boosters who went to the AD and said offer him 8, we will each pay a million a year of that get it done.

And the players, providing services, will be getting hosed by a greater disparity than ever before.
Free Room? Great Free Board? Great Free Tuition? Great Free pu$$y Great
Interdepartmental Studies degree (maybe) in order to keep eligible? See you at McDonalds

The only real way is through a bigtime program. He's 'forced' into this type of situation at every Div-1 school. Every one. And if you seriously want links pertaining to academics getting in the way of sports, you can get them yourself. Start with Robert Smith, OSU. The proceed on to the more recent UNC scandal. So, yeah, go ahead and pay Harbaugh the 8mil/year...it'll only hasten what needed to be done two decades ago...fair compensation for the players...cuz....room/board/tuition for a crappy degree ain't it.

I have been saying since the advent of college sports boards on the interwebs that the majority of D1 male athletes in revenue sports have no business being in college. No business.

Seff, with all due respect, what you just wrote here was so fucking stupid, it only seems fair that you find a bg hammer, and smack yourself in the skull with it three times. It's a choice Seff. They chose to play football, and they chose to go play college football. No one has a gun to their head. For fucks sake, if your dream is to be a doctor, they make you be a medical intern for 2 years, earning $12 an hour, 80 hours a week, and you still have to pay for tuition.

#1--You're all-american in high school and you're not going to play big time college ball? Right. Sure, in theory, a choice, but hardly a choice. #2--You decide to play big time college ball and yes, you have a choice...ONE choice...in a quasi-corrupt, wins first, academics second environment. That's no choice. #3--Interesting you bring up medical education processes. Right in my wheelhouse. There's changes coming in that arena, probably the most archaic and uppity body of academia there is. (Oh, and BTW, look at how much MDs make once they make it past their internship.) Bad comparison. There frankly is no comparison. Think globally. Finally, medical training at low rates is *cheap labor* to the hospitals who make a lot of money off of the interns. Sound fair? Didn't think so. The most slothlike and archaic training practices even acknowledge change is due. Just because it exists, doesn't mean it's right. www.medpagetoday.com/PublicHealthPolicy/MedicalEducation/42926www.npr.org/blogs/health/2014/07/31/336825962/hospitals-fight-proposed-changes-in-medical-trainingfortune.com/2013/04/01/medical-students-confront-a-residency-black-hole/Bottom line....pay Harbaugh the $8/mil....it'll hasten a more favorable, logical and fair system for the kids whose labor the universities are making multi millions of dollars a year off of...all for the same ol room, board and tuition.
