I'm watching the news and I see that Laura Bush has come out and criticized how the Myanmar (Burma) government is handling the aftermath of the cyclone that has now killed over 22,000 in this country. Specifically in terms of taking aid from outside countries.
She needs to shut her piehole since her husband's administration still has not aided those displaced in our own country due to Hurricane Katrina. Remind me Laura, how much foreign aid did the U.S. turn down during the Katrina aftermath? How many people have not been able to return home because of the utter incompetence by Dubya, Brownie, and the host of cronies that royally fucked up in New Orleans?
Somebody in the Bush administration needs to make sure this dumb broad keeps her piehole shut about how other countries handle the aftermaths of natural disasters.

My apologies.....I forgot that U.S. policy states we call it Burma since we don't recognize the regime in Myanmar.
Take our aid with conditions.......like letting Haliburton in to see if you have any oil for us.

I'm surprised we don't make them officially accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior in order to receive our help.

Looks like ol' W is cashing it in as the end nears.
What's Laura up to with the recent publicity tour? Trying to create a legacy?
Don't worry, Laura. Your legacy is bound to be better than your predecessor Hillary, who is in the process of redefining the meaning of "megalomaniac sociopath."
As W made Bill look so much better by comparison, Laura, so to shall Hillary provide a glittering sheen for your legacy.

He was probably drunk or sleeping one off. Or giving Condi a goo-mask. OK, that is an image I did not need today. I agree that Mrs. Bush needs to shut her hole about taking care of disasters.

Unfortunately, she is absolutely correct. Political schtick aside, thousands of people needlyless dies because of the gross inaction of the Burmese Govt. The majority of the people who died drowned. This could have been avoided, since international weather agencies told Rangoon that a cyclone was heading towards the Burmese lowland deltas. If the Burmese Govt. would have advicsed people to go upland or enter fortified buildings, many of these deaths could have been prevented. But the Govt. did nothing to warn the people.
Now the people who survived had all of their possesions and food stocks eliminated. They have no fresh water, food or shelter. They are without the things nessecary to survive, and the government wont allow foreign governments or NGOs to help? That is criminal neglegance. So no matter how stupid dumbfuck Bush is, Laura is right to point this out.

She may be right. That's not really the issue. It's the hypocrisy that is so apalling here (even for a Bush).

Geez, auto, don't you know anything. The US government has done nothing to help anyone in New Orleans. They should be able to wave a magic wand and restore the city instantly. And those Visa check cards the government issued that got spent at strip clubs across the south are figments of your imagination - mere items of fiction crafted by the mass media.
Hell, it was Dubya's idea to put New Orleans below sea level in the first place, and if he doesn't allocate billions, no trillions, toward the immediate reconstruction of New Orleans, BELOW SEA LEVEL DAMNIT, he deserves a place in history as the WORST POTUS EVER.

Hell no! autolykos: Germans? Hoffahawk: Forget it, he's rolling.

We are the same country that turned down aid from other countries that could have helped our own citizens. I know you and BTR's attitude of everyone fend for themselves even when a natural disaster occurs is what your ideal world would look like.

This thread kind of reminds me of that South Park episode where all the parents were too busy figuring out who to blame for the dam breaking, as opposed to addressing the dam breaking.

See autolykos - anything in the government that goes wrong is W's fault. W coordinated the relief effort. W's phone number was posted on Craigslist under "assistance wanted" and when foreign countries called to offer aid, W just turned it down.
The subpar response by the Federalies in the immediate wake of Katrina is a prime example of why charities like the Red Cross are superior to the feds in a time of crisis. First of all, when you give cash to the government during a crisis, they are going to shit all over themselves figuring out what the fuck to do with it. They have a set budget coming from a set place, toss a monkey wrench in there and you're shit on. Second, who the hell do you even call if you're the government of say Italy with a gift for the US? Did anyone here go volunteer during the Flood of '93? Probably not because most people on this board are lazy entitlement minded liberals, but talk about a clusterfuck, there was no one in charge. That's what happens whenever there is a fucking crisis, nobody knows who the fuck is in charge, and by the time it becomes clear who is in charge, countries like Kuwait say "Oh your problem is okay, we're Indian giving the $400 million in oil we pledged - you guys aren't poor, you don't need our charity." And then to the extent someone is in charge, the last thing you want is a bunch of Frenchies who don't speak English rolling into the 9th Ward. The guys in the 9th Ward after the hurricane hit could roll over the aggregate of every French army ever assembled in two days flat.
The government has regimented processes that it follows. They fail all the fucking time, no matter who the hell is the Commander in Chief. I have no doubt that when the next hurricane hits New Orleans, FEMA will be just as unprepared as it was for the last one. I would expect nothing less from a government that is allocating billions of tax dollars to rebuild a city below sea level. But when Barry ensures that tax rates are higher, the people will have less to give to Red Cross, so at least we can look forward to an extra week of pledge drives in the wake of that one though.

Understanding, of course, that you give "W" a free pass on everything - it is all the "government's" fault, but not its CEO's. Please.

I hardly give W a pass on everything, I just understand that he is not to blame for every single problem every person in the US has. Liberals who have never managed anything more significant than a drum circle or bong session don't understand that. That's all.

I was filling sandbags in the great flood while lieberals like you were at home watching it on TV blaming Mr. McMullen for your lack of water - he ran the Water Works, it was clearly his fault that the water shut off.
The federal government didn't just wave a fucking magic wand and make everything better. Neighbors chipped in and helped. I blame Clinton for the levies near the Water Works and in Valley Junction breaking and I blame W for building New Orleans below sea level. It was W's fault the WTC collapsed. Any time anything goes wrong ever again, I'm blaming the President. It sounds like a fun game.
