I haven't seen this addressed on here before. To me, gun control is being able to hit your target. I am a staunch believer in the right of law-abiding citizens to own AND CARRY personal firearms. I differ from the NRA because I do believe in waiting periods, background checks, etc., but I think the end result is that is a citizen's right to carry. Here in GA, we have the right to obtain a license to carry (which I have) and we currently have reciprocity with 20 other states that will recognize the license. I just picked up a new weapon yesterday for carrying purposes - Glock 27, .40 caliber: This is what sits in my closet at home (loaded with "00"): For the record, I sincerely hope that I never have to use any of my weapons for anything other than target practice and that feeling of safety. But I would rather have a weapon and not need it that need one and not have it.

That Glock is very fun to shoot. My brother-in-law is a Trooper and has that model for his back-up. I've gotten to destroy a few targets with it....the extended grip on the clip is nice for my big paws. As for my background with guns, I use 2 different shotguns, 1 for birds (pheasant & turkey) and 1 for deer. I also use 2 different rifles .243 for deer in Missouri and .223 AR for coyotes. I keep mine locked in a safe as I have children. I think along the lines of Bluz when it comes to owning and keeping firearms. I don't own a handgun, but I understand why others do (especially business owners as they deal with large amounts of cash). I would like to see more consistency when it comes to carry laws/requirements. Pass a shooting test/classes and recertification every so often (along with background checks and waiting periods).

I'm not a gun owner, nor do I hunt or have any use for firearms.
I would be lying if I said the idea of citizens carrying around firearms doesn't scare me a little bit. Missouri has a conceal and carry law, and so far it's not proved to be the complete clusterfuck I thought it would be.
In the end, I support the right to own and carry a firearm, however, I'm very much in favor of waiting periods and thorough backround checks.

I support the entire Bill Of Rights, including the Second Amendment. In fact I think I ought to be able to purchase/obtain any weapon I can procure, not just the ones sanctioned by the government. The Second says "The right to bear ARMS." Not which arms. And frankly, I'd like to be able to pack a decent weapon when I'm in the hood or the wilderness and not worry about being harassed about it.
Now, having said that, I think that the penalties for abusing and carelessly operating deadly weapons should be very, very strict and serve as a substantial deterrent, and I totally agree with enhanced penalties for crimes committed with a deadly weapon.

I think a lot of times people conflate (whether purposefully or not) gun "control" with gun "prohibition." That said, I'm pretty much on the same page as the respondents before me. I believe in and support a person's right to own/carry a gun... but it should be really goddamn difficult to obtain, and as Thunder said, the punishments for abusing said right should be very, very severe.

Anybody see the Chris Rock stand-up where he talks about charging $10,000 for a bullet for gun control?
I don't know the exact quote - "That way, if someone gets shot, they musta derserved it!!!"
He has his moments...

I agree that penalties for crimes committed with weapons should be extremely severe. And as I stated earlier, I have no problem with waiting periods and background checks, if they are reasonable. Three to five days and running your fingerprints is fine. As for the carry permit, it should be your right, unless you have done something to abrogate that right (convicted felon, judged a mental case, whatever). Here in GA, you fill out all the forms, submit your fingerprints to the GBI for a background check, and approximately 60 days later you have a license to carry. I do not agree that it should be goddamn difficult to obtain.
The end result should be that, if you can jump through the right hoops, you should be able to carry anything, anywhere and obtain any weapon.

Bluz I'm jealous, I want a Glock 27 so bad. I currently have a Glock 22, which is the bigger version .40. I couldn't agree with you more on any of your points. I would rather have a gun and not need it then need it and not have it.

Don't worry guys, once Barry takes all the guns away, you'll be safe. See, e.g. Chicago and our gun ban. We have had FEWER than 30 people shot each of the past two weekends, 3 weekends ago, well that was an anamoly.

I think a political party that was truly pro-smaller government (more freedom) in both terms of fiscal policy and social policy would destroy these two assclown parties that we have right now in most election cycles. The 'pubs are sold out to the extreme right 20% Bible thumpers who vote on family values (which have no damn place in federal politics) and the dems are sold out to the extreme left 20% redistributionist/populists. It's a freaking joke.
Most Hawk fans are good people who just want a place to watch a damn ball game on Saturday whilst having a cold non-union Coors Light, minding their own business, without having to worry about Barney Fife from the University Heights PD arresting them for drinking beer or drving 26 miles an hour. The rest is just details.

Oh yeah, and Hawk fans also want O'Kweefe to take his head out of his ass long enough to get a damn play in and pre-emptively try to catch the defense off guard.

If you see the studies, something like 70% of the population is actually somewhere in the center. The problem is that we are not given a party or a candidate that is truly centrist. This issue is a perfect example - people should be able to own and carry guns, but there needs to be some control in the licensing and acquisition. I would wager that there are a lot of issues out there where the reasonable middle ground would be the position of most people, but again, we are not given that choice.

When asked about my political affiliation, I suggest I am a hybrid of shit and piss, er independent.
