HAHHAHAHHAHHAHHHAHAHHAHIs this really that funny...AHAHHAHAH!!!!! LOW DOUBLE DIGITS MEANS YOUR ASS IS GRASS!!!! I could tell less than 2 minutes into that game that Iowa couldn't compete athletically with these guys, when the score was 5-2. The eyeball test was right fucking there. Why Fran let Jok, Uthoff, and Gesell to continue to shoot 14-18 foot jumpers is beyond fucking me. Is he fucking stupid and doesn't understand basketball sabermetrics, or was he just hanging the white flag 5 minutes in and conceded the paint to that Polish ogre? Give me a fucking break. They beat a team in the first round by 10 that we beat by 35 fucking points this season. They shot fucking lights out in the first half, they would have beaten every team in the tourney (not named Kentucky) shooting like that. Sure we gave them some open looks but if you shoot over 60% from the 3 and the field you shouldn't lose. When they cooled off in the second half we made a little run but Iowa would have had to play a perfect game and have them cool off a lot more than they did in the second to really have a chance. Hell, we actually shot the ball pretty well if we would have had one of those 35% shooting nights we would have lost by 30. It was the perfect storm, not saying they weren't the better basketball team but it isn't as simple as that. Otherwise ISU would have beat UAB. etc. Even if Gonzaga shot their season average from three, we still lose by 11. With that 11 point lead, if Gonzaga shoots their average from the field, we only lose by 2. Of course, all of this ignores the fact that Gonzaga outrebounded the shit out of us, had twice as many assists, and got us into foul trouble. Also, Iowa shot better than their season average as well. Trying to pin the loss on hot shooting is fucking stupid. We were at a disadvantage in size, smarts, and scoring from the opening tip, which is exactly why the game was a blowout.

That isn't actually why the game was a blow out but is why Gonzaga was favored going into the game. I wasn't pinning the loss on hot shooting, but it was a pretty big reason why those other stats you mentioned occurred. Also games aren't played based on averages, we played a much more difficult schedule than those asshats did. So they have inflated season averages vs. shit teams and Iowa's averages would have been higher if they played the same shit competition. It' ain't apples to apples.

Oh, you like apples? How about these apples? That's coach Alford on his way to yet another Sweet 16. Another? He's got 3, pal. If Bryce stays hot and UCLA wins, Alford will have as many Elite 8 appearances as Iowa has had in the past 35 years. Fuck, why do I even bother? Why? Tell me god damn it.

I think the reason there was a rebounding disparity was because Gonzaga just had better rebounders. I think the reason Gonzaga had assists on 63% of their baskets is because they have better players and a better offense. I think the reason they got us into foul trouble is because our guys couldn't guard their guys straight up. Like I said, I could tell, and I told people, two minutes into the fucking game...that Iowa was clearly outclassed. After only a couple of offensive sets, you could see how smooth Gonzaga looked, and how rigid Iowa was.

Sparty wins again and is the elite 8. No more big 12. Somehow The best basketball conference isn't in the tourney anymore.

Gonzaga sucked the first two thirds of their game with UCLA. The Fighting Alfrauds were sucking worse, otherwise that might have turned out differently. Why do so many teams have record shooting nights against teh Hokks? For the same reason every QB we face turns into a 1st-round pick when they play us.
