on CNBC last night? It was pretty interesting. They had profiles of multiple data mining companies, including one that effed up this lady's background check, causing her to get no offer pwn3d from a job she got hired for. Also, interestingly, they indicated that google has kept every search ever run and the IP address associated therewith.
Of course, everyone on the board knows that when a third party has information about you, the government can get it without a warrant if the third party so desires to give it to the government. Certain provisions of federal law prohibit the federal government from collecting personal information, so they just go and buy it from the data mining companies. With storage costs going down, your "permanent record" will get really, really long soon, as the data mining companies are now keeping everything that they come into contact with. It was a pretty interesting show. I'm sure it will be on again, so you might want to tivo it and check it out.
