Stanford has done this for a few years and it has made a big boost in quality of secondary sports.
For example men's golf get's 4.5 NCAA scholarships, Baseball 11.7 etc. Most schools have a tough time dividing those up and are limited in the number of players they can bring in. With the way Stanford does it now I don't really see how they have any restictions in the number of players they can bring in.
Ghost BB and FB are full rides and not partials so I don't see how that helps as much.

If I'm a borderline P5 conference type player and had the option of walking on at NW with full financial aid or taking a full ride to some MAC school like To led or ISU you'd have to be lazzard type stupid to turn that down. A handful of quality walkons could really make a difference at NU. |

To put it perspective it isn't uncommon for teams to carry 130 or so players into spring practice with only 85 scholarship players. That's 40+ walk on players. Traditionally more than half of those guys are just warm bodies that eat up punishment at practice because they've seen Rudy 1 too many times. Now replace those guys with legit D1 guys and suddenly you have a much deeper bench. For a developmental program like NU that could be yuuuge.
