We might be reaching the critical point. www.rawstory.com/bing-ai-chatbot/I'm curious how this will all play out. 1. AI will be married to the deep fakes and people will rapidly (continue) to lose touch with reality. 2. The omnipresence of trolls or dumbfuck chaos agents (see NOTTHOR) will guarantee AI seeks to launch a nuke / shut down a system whenever it becomes able to. 3. There are smart technical people that will try to save us, but ALL code has its flaws and their attempts will fail due to a bug.

There are smart technical people that will try to save us, but ALL code has its flaws and their attempts will fail due to a bug. AI has the potential to be insanely dangerous and should arguably be banned on some level (good luck defining that), but banning it would put us a technical disadvantage that would be even more dangerous than the AI. It won't be in our lifetimes, but our kids or grandkids will likely encounter a borderline societal collapse situation when AI goes haywire and no one knows how to fix the underlying issue because the underlying process know-how will have been forgotten. I would never troll AI because I don't know where its logical conclusion is and I would hate to be accused of being "against the machines" if the machines ever have full control. "I'm sorry Mr. OK4P, your money has been removed from the database due to comments that you fed a machine in 2027. You may not appeal this decision. It is final and binding. Have a pleasant day."

Yeah. Things really are going to hell with this shit. People are already convinced easily enough by the bots in social media to believe preposterous things. It’s not going to get better. Part of me is glad I probably only have another 20 years left on this planet. I fear our kids and grandkids aren’t going to have the life we had.

Our downfall, think about it and cry, might be a technological achievement in high Artificial Intelligence...... We can't feed the poor, protect kids from getting shot in school, cure/better prevent cancers, maintain needed infrastructure of all kinds across the world, come to a consensus that our lives are finite and therefore too short to waste on pushing controlling worldviews, etc...but by golly we an literally create digital life.

So it seems the subtext of this is that the US has created something that scares them and they want to make sure there are limits to the deployment of such weapon systems.

I find that very hard to believe. The software for that mission would be very far from sentient or having those sort of judgment capabilities built into it. If it has those capabilities it is the fault of the people who made the software, not the software. It would be running software that is far too complicated for the mission.

Yeah, my question is what is the point of the US Airforce putting this information out there? Do they often offer up information about weapons systems they are trying to develop?

Everyone there would be under a mega mega mega fucking security clearance and none of those guys are gonna say shit. The military will never just go out and publicly admit it fucked up a system, fuck ups can get out in an investigation or congressional hearing, but they are never offered. The story is likely disinformation planted by our own military to try to scare other countries off of building AI weapons systems or it could be some shit from a defense contractor who is way behind on AI who is trying to scare the military off of buying a competitor's AI based systems. There's no fucking way the story as told in there is true, though.

I agree but I don’t fucking know so without more information I’m going to defer to my previous post on the matter. ‘ So it seems the subtext of this is that the US has created something that scares them and they want to make sure there are limits to the deployment of such weapon systems.’ In other words they are making the case for treaties to limit AI development and implementation. Fucking Skynet.

Fucking Skynet. You'll never get more information, though. I agree that a treaty could be the end game, but there's absolutely no way to enforce it. The US has to pray for a treaty because such a huge percentage of the world's industrial capacity currently resides in China and if they turned on a war machine similar to what we did in WWII they could inundate the world with AI driven shit and indiscriminately kill a significant amount of global population while sustaining virtually no losses. The Chinese could probably build autonomous vehicles that could kill a person for like $10 each. It's incomprehensible to think of how giga fucked the US could be in a hot war with them. I still can't believe how beholden to them we allowed our country to become. Worst fucking idea ever.

Yeah, maybe, but the CCP's propaganda wing has a billion plus people convinced that the US released it. China is completely fucked as Western multinationals reel in supply chains and I ain't a huge fan of bubbling tensions with a country that damned big with that much of an installed capital base where the populace thinks the US attacked them with a bioweapon. It's less than ideal.
