Taking MBA courses and tonight was the final phase of our simulated business for Operations. I built up all the models and forecasts - then explained it to my team before we started. They were pretty overwhelmed so just nodded in agreement with my suggestions.
Anyways. The sim ended and the professor is checking to see if our sim may have beaten the all-time record. We ended up not realizing $148k in profits out of $3.95M... so around 3%, or conversely - we got 97% of the potential profits if everything was perfect. The kicker was my predicted unit count was 2 off from actual (3,184). 0.06% variation.
I even predicted within $40k how much we would beat everyone else by.
Aaaand, it was a simulation that didn't mean shit, but it felt damned good to nail it.

Nothing susses out retards like a group project that is an Excel file with a fuckload of tabs that fold into an elegant model. My last semester in undergrad for econometrics the prof was insistent that being able to build complex models in Excel and then presenting them to groups was the most important skill we could ever learn in college and to his credit I think he was totally correct on that. Dude would give us gargantuan data sets and make us figure out how to find shit between variables. It was always a group thing and someone would start presenting and he'd let the original person go for a few minutes and then start asking other people in the group questions about specific columns or variables and how they fit the model. He took great pride in the kids dropping and said he could always tell if someone was gonna drop by their responses when he would put them on the hot seat to defend the model. My guess is you did everything and if you had my old prof the rest of your team would have been absolutely demolished in trying to explain your model, which sounds like it was near perfect for the assignment. I think higher ed now requires the school to make sure almost everyone passes because the students are looked at as "assets" of the school, which sucks because the cherry on top of your story would be the other members of your group getting totally undressed when the prof determined you did everything.

Hey remember the Socratic methoding in Ye Olde Law School? Shelly Kurtz was Socratizing the shit outta me over some medical ethics problem in Health Law. It was a Kobayashi Maru unwinnable trap. I think it had to do with religious objections to life saving blood transfusion to a child. You can see the zero sum conflicting interests at hand here. So I just told Sheldon that this was an unwinnable situation, but that I'd not have the blood of a dead child on my hands, so my solution would be to force the transfusion, report the parents to DHS, and publicly attack them in the media for trying to kill their own kid and placing the hospital in a situation where it'd be a party to said killing of said child. He just kind of chuckled. I did however receive the highest grade in the class.

Yeah, I actually had an American history prof at DMACC and that econ guy at Drake who both did Socratic undergrad classes and they were both better at it than everyone at Iowa except for a handful of elite profs, including of course Shelly. I've gotta think Iowa is boned by now. When I left they were in a good spot, Shelly, Hovenkamp, Hillary Sale, hopefully soon to be Senator Katie Porter, Carrasco, Willard Boyd, Larry Ward. Those cats are all gone now and I don't think they've been able to backfill the positions because the private schools can pay so much more. A lot of schools are in a really bad spot and hopefully the impending recession will cause law schools that shouldn't exist, like Drake, to close down. Iowa only needs one school and if you can't hit the number for Iowa you probably shouldn't be a lawyer. Problem is no one has the balls to tell kids that sort of truth anymore.

You went to DMACC? So you really are a legit gas bag? And dead Billy, and Earache are truly better trolls…..smh Yes, I did 60 credits at DMACC because it was like $40 per credit hour when I went. My old man told me point blank he wasn't paying a nickel of my tuition so I was able to ride out the first two years without incurring a penny in debt. Got out with a total of just under $12k in debt for undergrad. I realized even back then the extent to which the government was attempting to create a debt servitude situation for all the kids and I wasn't gonna play that shit. I could have gone to a "better school" than Iowa for law school but they gave me in-state tuition and a slight discount off that so I finished that with $40k of debt. What we have allowed to happen to our smarter kids as a society is absolutely despicable and I die a little inside every time I hear about 25 year old kids who have over a quarter of million dollars of student loans. It's absolutely disgusting. I share my story with kids in high school if college discussions ever come up. There is so much social pressure for them to go to the flagship school or a name brand, but I convinced my neighbor to go to Greenville Tech and then transfer to USC and the kid profusely thanked me just a few weeks ago when he stopped at home over spring break because it saved him over $50k of debt. Juco is free in South Carolina, which is the way it should be everywhere.

I was more amazed with the part where he came out debt free because he prostituted himself. Cannot imagine the level of people in the DMACC nexus that would choose to pay him... and the sheer volumes needed to overcome the discounting.

Update... Professor said that our(my) score was over $50k higher than the 2nd highest score at in the MBA program as far back as he could go - 9 years. He asked the maker of the simulation how it may stand all-time/globally, but they haven't gotten back to him yet.
