This apparently just happened a little bit ago.

I can’t imagine what this is like. It’s gotta feel so odd and scary.

Earthquakes are the scariest shit ever. There ain't any fracking near me and there have been a fair number of quakes in the upstate region of SC and the mountains of NC. I can't imagine we'll ever have a big one but if we get even the "modest" sized ones that hit in Japan routinely I can't fathom the level of damage it will cause. The worst one I ever felt was a high 5-er that hit overnight. Ugh. Most terrified I've ever been, it's just absolutely terrifying for an Iowa boy to wake up to a quake with the house shaking and creaking. I felt multiple smaller ones in tall buildings and the buildings all "roll" to dissipate the energy. It's more movement than on a cruise ship. It's unsettling but on small earthquakes it ain't that scary, but my brother in law worked at Microsoft when that huge one hit in 2011 and he said the building (skyscraper in downtown Tokyo) swayed for well over 5 minutes.

I watched several videos not posted here if the earthquake and I want no part of that. Surprised that most people didn’t run out of buildings, but stayed there and just put their hands over their head. I’d get out so fast and away from tall shit.

A lot of the houses, unless they are really old or get absolutely hammered, are pretty safe. The joints on them are fitted together to the point where they don't even need nails and they use steel wraps to hold them in place in case a quake hits. All wood, so it gives a bunch.
