It's popular in Chicago - the legislature in Illinois is looking to ban it as well. My guess is the kid's suicide is linked more to the fact he was 18 and living in Indianola than it was to his ingestion of K2, but that's just my opinion. Or perhaps he was just depressed. God forbid we make weed legal so people don't smoke shit like this.

www.cannabisculture.com/v2/news/synthetic-cannabis-mimic-found-in-herbal-incenseBased on this article, I'm starting to think all this stuff is the same. BTR is right on again about this issue, the more I read about kids trying this stuff or OD's of prescription meds the stronger case it makes for legalization of pot. The generation of reefer madness is slowly dying out and losing power. Hopefully, rationality regarding this subject will win out starting in California and Washington state this fall with ballot measures.

What do you guys think is the right answer here, seriously?
Do you think this kid couldn't get his hands on some weed so he resorted to K2, the only high he could find?
From my viewpoint, people are going to seek and find whatever it is that trips their trigger, be it weed, alcohol, K2, or whatever. I don't see how legalizing weed makes K2, meth, or other "bad" drugs so by the wayside.
Enlighten and educate me on your views (seriously).

You are right about people finding whatever it is that they are interested in doing. There is no stopping curiosity. However, there is evidence to support that legalizing marijuana would decrease other illicit drug use. The reasoning behind it being that by presenting a legal avenue to procure marijuana, you don't force users to interact with the illegal black market to obtain their product. Thus, you don't expose them to any other "goods" the seller is peddling. Speaking from experience, I know this can be a factor. I got into cocaine, back in my U of I days, through my weed dealer. I'm not saying I wouldn't have gotten into it at some point anyway, but it sure made it a hell of a lot easier. Ultimately, if someone wants to do a particular drug, they are going to find it. I do think legalized marijuana would cut down on "impulse buys" though. There was actually a study done on San Francisco and Amsterdam (Criminalization vs. Decriminalization). It was published in the American Journal of Public Health. The results are pretty interesting. They found pot use amongst the two cities very comparable. Illicit drug use, however, was actually higher in San Francisco. www.mapinc.org/lib/limited.pdf

As far as K2 goes, I haven't experienced it. I'm assuming it is basically Salvia, which I know makes you hallucinate. Never had any desire to fuck with it though. I enjoy my nugs just fine. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
