No doubt you have your favorite lucky Hawkeye shirt or sweatshirt. What are some others? One of mine is my "lucky" Iowa coffee cup. It worked really good for a few years but lately not so much. But I still can't not use it on gamedays. (is that word banned here?)
Another one, I scan the trees and signs on the way to FB games for hawks (the actual birds). The more I see, the better the team does. Or so I think.

Great thread. I have a yellow shirt that I got from Universitees and wore it to every game during my lawschool tenure. It was undefeated for a huge run. I gave Ma strict instructions NOT to wash it. When we moved to Chicago, she washed it. It retained its streak in 2005 and I thought that maybe she hadn't washed the good luck off of it. I forgot it for the Michigan game bince they had the blackout. We lost in OT. The next week was the real heartbreaker. At Northwestern. I wore it over a long sleeved white T. We lost again. I also wore a black stocking cap with a tigerhawk on it that day.
In '06, I thought the schmutz was off the shirt bince we started really strong. I wore it to Illinois and we dominated. Then, I wore it to the OSU game the next weekend and we got thrashed.
In '07, I wore it to NIU, Indiana, Northwestern, Western Michigan, Syracuse and Illinois. Given our success in those games, it is clearly no longer lucky and it is Ma's fault for washing it. The stocking cap is clearly unlucky as it's record is currently 0-2 (NU and WMU). Plus, I wore it to the BTT last year when we got rolled by Purdue in the first game we played, but bince it was Alfraud's last game, I guess it was a half victory. Regardless, I'm never wearing the stocking cap to a ball game again.
Ma is lobbying me really hard to throw away my once lucky shirt, as she thinks that it is disgusting, bince the armpits are blackening and there are war stains (bar-b-q sauce, bloody marry, bacon grease, etc.) all over it. I just can't though, because we have the whole O-line back this year and the defense should be really good again. Mature o-line and good defense is what made Iowa good in 2002-04 and we might be getting ready for another good run. I can't be without my lucky shirt when the Hawks need me the most. Oh, the insults I've heard at Ken O'Kweefe whilst wearing that shirt.

No superstitions for anything I wear, but for both football and hoops, I think it's bad luck/a bad omen when the Hawks wear their away unis. I always want us to be wearing the home blacks for bowl games and the whites or golds for the NCAAs. Football especially, though. White jerseys in a bowl game always gives me an "uh-oh" feeling before the game even starts.
