The February fundraising numbers were released: Obama $55.4 Million Clinton $34.5 Million McCain $11 Million Primary cash on hand minus debts: Obama $31.8 Million Clinton $2.7 Million (not including the $5 Million loan to herself) McCain $2 Million And McCain has spent $58.4 Million... More than the $50 Million spending limit of Public Finance candidates. So once the FEC board gets seated, he could be going to jail because of the law with his name on it. Full story: talkingpointsmemo.com/news/2008/03/obama_outdoes_clinton_in_finan.phpInteresting stat: In a testament to the financial heft behind the Democrats, Obama and Clinton together spent more in a month than McCain has for the length of the yearlong campaign.edit - slightly modified the #'s.

There is just way to much money involved in politics. I think the politicians should be able to buy radio/tv spots at a greatly reduced price, with a limit of course, and should do most of their campaigning the old fashioned way. Driving from one city to another. The money being spent in elections is just another example of poor waste.
Side note; it will be interesting to see if the Mccain critics push for Mccain to not be able to run for President on him not being born in the US. Seeing as that also is law.

It may stick in some people's heads (or be used as a whisper campaign), but I read a while back that this came up in 2000 - and some agency/judge ruled in 2000 that he was "validated"/ able to be Prez.
