Caught this on Nightline a few days ago. Appears they are prepared for the end of the world...protecting the world's seeds from natural disaster and environmental change. Wild stuff. Apparently, in the 1800's, there were over 7,000 varieties of apples being grown. Today there are only 200 varieties left that have avoided extinction. abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory?id=3872721

If we had a "Doomsday" due to man-made or natural disasters who is going to retrieve the seeds and plant them? And will the climate be the same as it is now so that the plants can grow?

Good questions, who knows? There must be some poor schlub sitting in the cold vault waiting for his chance to be a farmer and start civilization again.
