No, W was in fact elected through the electoral process of all electing a president. I know Democrats don't like using the rules in elections which were established (see, e.g., the use/non use of Florida and Michigan results). Here's an idea...you might have a little more credibility with the world if you try to change the rules BEFORE the results are in. And if you're a fan of Barry Obama, then I guess you have nothing to say about "disenfranchising" the voters in Florida.

And the question is a fair question. Don't wait for the James Carville crowd to tell you whether you're better off. Stand up and answer it for yourself. Come on, you'll feel great when you remove the shackles of government telling you how to feel, what to say, etc.

There it is. Liberal ideology 101. I did things in the past 7+ years to better myself. So did bluzhippie. I'm way better off today than I was 7 years ago, except I'm a little fatter and in worse shape -- maybe if the FDA would ban Portillo's chili dogs and Chocolate Cake Shakes I could drop a few pounds and everything would be perfect. It looks like under liberal way, the only way for someone to individually be better off is if someone else does something else to make them better off. The sense of entitlement is sickening.

Let's hope the credit crisis subsides soon or the Fed does something about the shock in the secondary market for student loans or a bunch of kids won't be able to look back in 7 years and say they were better off.

The fact that we had a highly contested election and no blood was spilled in the streets makes me proud of my country. I'm sure Gore would have done a fine job and I think he would have adequately responded to the terrorist situation. I doubt there would have been a highly material difference in most of our lives if Gore had won in 2000, except I bet that Gore would not have cut taxes leading to the huge M&A boom leading to M&A lawyers getting paid 200k+ first year out of school, but I would still be in a better position today than I was in 7 years ago.

I didn't live in the States when the decision to war went down. My only source of American news was Communist News Network. They made it sound like everyone in the country was for the war. I think Congress overwhelming approved of the show of force. I couldn't figure out what imminent threat of harm was posed by a country thousands of miles away that allegedly possessed WMDs, but most people in Congress could and W could. They all effed up. We don't know how Gore would have reacted. It seemed to me like America was a little bloodthirsty at the time, maybe he would have made the same move. Maybe if you or me were in power, we'd have made the same move. We'll never know.

Before that it was drugs, poverty, or communism. There's always got to be a cause that instills fear in the populace and keeps us fighting for something. I'm better off, but I'm working hard for it. I'm also in school again. My wife is in school for her doctoral degree. I hope that we are able to make a good life, but there will be student loans.
