Yeah, but Al Qaeda would be stronger than ever and Osama Bin Laden would still be running around calling the shots......oh wait....sorry It doesn't matter who's in power. There will always be a war on something that will cost the American taxpayer billions of dollars. This one's terrorism. Before that it was drugs, poverty, or communism. There's always got to be a cause that instills fear in the populace and keeps us fighting for something. Hell, don't call me a white flag waving liberal, but defining a win in any of those wars is just about impossible. Anybody want to start a pool on the next big war? Go Ralph! Good points.

I'm better off, but I'm working hard for it. I'm also in school again. My wife is in school for her doctoral degree. I hope that we are able to make a good life, but there will be student loans. I'm not a wingnut, but I feel I work pretty hard, and that both my wife and I are trying to get ahead. Help me understand how only conservatives know how to work hard. PS-whether GW was appointed or elected is a moot point. He is a complete retard. How could you conservatives defend his incredible lack of insight and talent? In all fairness, I think BTR has been quite critical of Dubya. I don't know about his buddies Darryl and Darryl.

The major difference in this particular war is that honorable young men and women are dying so Bush and Cheney can have this dick-swinging contest. I don't know bluz, we lost tens of thousands of young men who were sent to Vietnam against their will to prevent the spread of communism. We've lost hundreds of thousands of men from productive society to fight the war on drugs. We've lost a lot of young men to disastrous welfare policy known as public housing to fight the war on poverty. I don't see too much of a difference. The blame for those losses must rest solely on the president in charge when each action began, but I'm sure that with the blind rage you have for W, you might be able to find it in your heart to blame him for those losses, too.

I'm scared, because you're actually making sense. However, given your statements about involuntarily fighting in wars (which I agree with), how do you reconcile your earlier comments about a mandatory draft (which I believe you said you supported), and your comments above?

My support of the draft is designed to clean up America. Only long haired dirty hippies will be subject to the draft. You don't want to get drafted, cut your hair and get a job. It's freedom of choice.

Yes, I think I am better off than in 01'. I met the wife in 00' but I have 3 girls since then and I can't imagine my life without them and my wife. I voted for bush but there are several things about him I don't like.
1) he is obviously, to me anyways, connected to oil in some way he shouldn't be.
2) the Iraq war is a joke, Al qaeda had a couple of small camps on the Iran border before we invaded now there are thousands of them with more coming over daily from Saudi Arabia.
3) Bush shows about as much respect for the environment as a dog does to a fire hydrant. Right now he is signing into law something that says big farms don't have to report their violations of clean air etc. to the federal/state govt. Yes it does in fairness say that reporting the violations to the feds' was a waste since the govt' never acted on them anyways, nice to know, but still why is constantly giving breaks to big business?
Those are probably my 3 big issues with bush but beyond that, yes I did vote for him. I have a joke about Iraq below if interested.
You can't see the picture that comes with this but it's of some dude in the south holding a gun the size of a car. It's kind of funny.
Pentagon announced TODAY the formation of a new 500-man elite fighting unit called the United States Redneck Special Forces (USRSF).
These Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, West Virginia, Missouri, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Louisiana and Texas boys will be dropped off into Iraq and have been given only the following facts about terrorists:
1. The season opened today.
2. There is no limit.
3. They taste just like chicken
4. They don't like beer.
5. They don't like pickup trucks
6. They despise country music
7. They don't love Jesus
8. They are directly responsible for the death of Dale Earnhardt.
The Pentagon expects the problem in Iraq to be over by Friday.

I'm way better off: My wife and two kids are healthy and happy, my business is thriving, I live in God's Country and most importantly, I'm able to travel thousands of miles to see the Hawks play a few times a year.

I like it. The problem is this - Dale Earnhardt ain't dead, bud. He faked his own death to get away from the media. Plus, he realized that as his driving skills deteriorated with age he was worth more dead than alive. I heard he is getting $2 a pop for these stickers: www.flickr.com/photos/keithpille/857828883/

Ralph, I am sick and tired of the elite starting wars for others to fight. Pick up a weapon and serve, why don't you? I guess you are too good for the military (draft only for stinking hippies), but you sure want to reap the benefits provided by that military.
Sometimes I find you funny, sometimes interesting, sometimes right. Times like this, I find your attitude detestable.
BTW, I don't feel a blind rage for W, my feeling is more embarrassment that he is the president. Yes, I when that idiot is speaking, acting, attending anything that involves other countries, I am embarrassed. It is his constitution-stomping administration as a whole that draws my "rage."

Of course I'm better off today, on 1/20/2001 I was in college. Uh, I had to vote no, because I was in college. I certainly have more money, but the quantity and quality of women have dropped. I wish I could be in college for ever.

Yes, I when that idiot is speaking, acting, attending anything that involves other countries, I am embarrassed. It is his constitution-stomping administration as a whole that draws my "rage." You're tired of the elite starting wars and making others fight them? Read a history book. That's life bud. It ain't gonna change bince you don't like it. My rationale for the hippie draft, though it may need to be amended due to the hipster phenomenon that seems to be sweeping over New York, is that hippies provide nothing (or at most, very little) to society or the economy, thus their services are better expended in the IED dismantling department of the Army than in a drum or hackey or drum/hackey circle in some park. I, on the other hand, earn a decent living and pay a fair chunk of my income to the government in the form of taxes. I know you and your liberal allies have never read Adam Smith because you hate capitalism, but if you do read An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations you will read about specialization of labour (Smith was a Scot, so he spelled it with a u). Applying that principle in a macroeconomic sense, someone like me should stay and pay taxes while someone with less value to the economy should go to Iraq. You shouldn't get too upset when W does anything involving other countries. Most people in the world don't speak English. If you don't believe me, go to Marshalltown. Yasuo Fukuda could call you a cockgobbler to your face and you wouldn't know. Before you blow a gasket, step back, take a deep breath, and remind yourself, it's only the internets.

It's an obvious yes, except for losing my mom. I was in my first year of legal practice getting horribly underpaid to be someone's bitch. I had no girlfriend and I was pretty overweight. I was rolling around in a 96 sable that had a failing transmission. I had substantial credit card debt racked up from the summer I spent studying for the bar, and all the law school friend scattered to about 6 cities rarely to be seen again.
