From 8-9 pm on Saturday during "Earth Hour" we're encouraged to turn off all the lights and sit around in the dark. Any plans to celebrate/observe this first time occurrence?

If I have a wicked thunderstorm, perhaps.
Otherwise, our house kinda does this already.

WTF? I know they're turning the lights off at the office and a bunch of the offices downtown. I'm going to try to buy that neon sign from Winners Lounge and hang it in my office window so that it is the only light shining in downtown. Effin libs with their stupid Earth Days and Earth Hours. I hope Jose will sell me the sign.

The only light in the house will be the flicker of the Bic lighting up a fattie

Google is being PC for the whole day it seems with the black screen which is kind of cool. I won't be observing it on purpose. I'll be watching BB with the lights off as usual. I've turned my heat down and the air up. My son installed those curly lights last year. I'm not a fan of these lights at all but I use them. I fill my blue bin every week with newspapers, magazines, cereal boxes etc. I'm doing what I can but I'm gonna watch the BB games as usual. I'm not going to worry about 1 hour that some group has set aside(it seems they are not BB fans.) The nerve of these people to schedule it today. They must be financed by PETA.

I must admit I didn't know about any of this horse shit. Now that I do, I will be ensuring that each and every light is on and stays on brightly. I will also ensure that every electrical outlet in this home has something plugged into it and that whatever it is is running nonstop. If I don't have something to plug into all the outlets, I will go buy something. I will also turn my double ovens and microwave on. Won't be anything in them, but F it. Will probably run all my garage door openers constantly as well. Whatever it takes to piss off liberal (lower case) losers is generally worth the trouble.

Sounds like you're doing your part to jump start the economy and the American way of life in general. Turn on that Big Ass Diesel of yours as well. Mine will be rumblin' at 8:00PST. My house will be lit up like a frickin' Christmas Tree as well. Can you post a link to that yearly global warming- global hotter-global cooling-global cold theory you've mentioned before? It sounds pretty interesting. For the record, I voted "yes". I will be observing Earth Hour and giggling my ass off at the rubes who think they are accomplishing something. Gentlemen, start your Engines!

Yo bucket. The emissions from those candles are shameful. I'm reporting you. One hour away from EH here on the west coast and the house is already glowing.
Edit: And turn off that computer. Energy hog.

I ran 4 lamps, my TV, computer and hot water for 1 hour. I also had Ma stationed out in the hall and had her push the button on the elevator and freight elevator every 30 seconds or so. I need to catch up with you dudes with the diesels, though.

Here's some funny tidbits from Australian Earth Hour. There are also a few charts to show the massive impact it had on energy consumption though I don't think it takes into account guys like Iowafan and me who quadrupaled(or more) our energy output during the annointed hour. blogs.news.com.au/heraldsun/andrewbolt/index.php/heraldsun/comments/earth_hour_crashes_to_earth/"Reader Sally points out that the hundreds of Brisbane residents who drove to Kangaroo Point, choking the roads, to see the lights go down sure made up for any cut in emissions" "At Giuseppe Arnaldo & Sons, celebrity chef Maurice Terzini ensured diners were not left in the dark in spectacular fashion by lighting 1000 candles." "We watched at least 7 helicopters flying around the inner Brisbane skies. I sent a leftie friend of mine an sms at about 8:15pm asking her if she could hear them too - she was very perplexed as to why they were there until I explained it was the Earth Hour people filming the lights so that they could go home and watch their “success” on their plasma televisions." "Sixteen office blocks owned or leased by the State Government took part. In a few cases, where staff were on 24-hour rosters, lights on some floors had to be kept on, but staff were instructed to pull blinds in order not to detract from the effect of the blackout." bucket, you and the rest of the candle burners aren't helping matters. www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?cid=1195546797524&pagename=JPost/JPArticle/ShowFullAnd how did that battery get all charged up?
