And at $16.5ml/year vs Heyward's $23ml/year, that's a cool $6.5mil/year less *less* in outlay, and, five years vs eight.
The birds do spend on occasion, and/but when they do, they spend wisely.

And browsing through this thread... that's saying something... www.fanragsports.com/mlb/spector-signing-fowler-isnt-cardinal-way/After all, the Cubs (made) no serious effort to re-sign Fowler because they believe that Albert Almora is ready for everyday play, or at least to split time with former Cardinals center fielder Jon Jay. For perspective, Jay is a year older than Fowler, has a career OPS+ only four points lower, has generally been a superior defensive center fielder and has the flexibility to play the corners, something Fowler has not done in the major leagues since that 2008 cup of coffee.

Fowler was an upgrade and a good money signing.

Fowler was an upgrade and a good money signing. When had signing a 30 year old who depends on his speed to a 5 year contract ever not been a good signing? Hitting in front of Matt Adams is the same as hitting in front Kris Bryant anyways.

Lou Brock traded when he was 25 and still entering his prime. Dexter Fowler, good player, is 30 years old and is passed his prime. Cubs have replacements including (hopefully) a full year of Kyle Schwarber at the plate. Never said a good loss, but it's manageable.

You Cub fans were suckn on Fowler's weenie all season long. Now he's a good loss? Hillary is smiling somewhere. Fowler was a very good player LAST YEAR. That doesn't mean I would have been happy if the Cubs had signed him to a 5 year deal worth $85 Million. The Cubs have plenty of guys in the outfield. Even if Fowler hits .350 this year and has an OPS of .500 doesn't mean it was a bad thing that the Cubs didn't resign him. He was never going to sign a long term deal with the Cubs and both Fowler and the Cubs knew this. He's a good player but there are much more important pieces that the Cubs will need to sign long term in the upcoming years.

Next thing you know, the Cards sign Jason Hammel and they will say they wrapped up the division because the Cubs didn't want him.

Bent the Cards over.

No no no...no no. Fowler ain't no Brock. Nobody will be. But the 'trade' between st. louis and Chicago is about the same. St. Louis helped themselves. Chicago did not. Heyward wasn't even starting as I recall late into the season, and I think in the series? Talk about getting bent over.

When did you become a Nebraska fan? History of winning...Ha! Unless history is going to patch up your shit starting rotation, have fun battling Pittsburgh for a 2nd wild card the next 5 years.

Your team is old, full of holes, and being good 10 years ago isn't going to help with shit. So does a history of titles somehow make you a better team next year? Will Illinois football be good next year bince they won a bunch of titles?

Fowler hasn't seen a pitch in a Cards uniform yet they helped themselves? Says who? And last time I checked Heyward was in the first year of his deal and they won a fucking WS you moron. Heyward was a starter on the 2016 Cubs that won the WS for the first time in 108 years. Do you really think 10,20,50 years from now people are going to give two shits that he was in a season long slump at the plate? Sure if he had an error in the bottom of the 10th that allowed the Indians to win you might have a point but not a single Cub fan gives two shits about him looking lost at the plate. WS TITLE = MISSION ACCOMPLISHED It was also 1 fucking year, as I said if Fowler hits .350 and the Cards win a WS in the next few years it will have been a great FA pickup for the Cards. As for Heyward he could never hit over .220 the rest of his time in Chicago and he will still be part of the team that won a WS title on the North Side. For some reason you can't seem to understand that. Also, why would I give a shit how much his contract is for, it isn't my money?
