Our firm has fairly strict qualification guidelines to get hired as an attorney. As a result, there are quite a few not so hot ladies working here because the centerforlds from Perfect 10 generally do not go to Harvard or graduate at the top of the class from the Iowa's, Indiana's and Illinois's of the world.
One night not too long ago, I was out drinking with some work peeps, and this one gal started crying and then left the bar. Her friend said she had cried every weekend for 3 or 4 weeks in a row over her man situation (lack thereof actually). She's prolly about 30 or so and about a 4 or 5. There are a lot of 3's and 4's, all around 30, all single and they can't find guys anywhere.
I made the mistake of telling them that all my male friends who I would deem marriable are already married or engaged. That did not make them happy. Then I told them that maybe they need to lower their standards. Another mistake.
My question is this: Does being a 2, 3 or 4 but making over $200k a year make a gal a hot commodity on the dating scene, or are they all destined for a life of solitude? Are most guys shallow assholes like me who won't approach 3's in a bar just out of principle and shallow assholishness (subject to cougar exception for me)? They're all pretty nice with good personalities, but they are lawyers, which means I would be scared as hell of the arguments, which is probably one major strike against them. But really, how screwed are they?

2's, 3's and 4's are not hot commodities on the dating scene regardless of their worth, career, etc. At least in my opinion. There are a number of guys that would probably disagree in that I see a ton of men with what I consider to be 2's, 3's or 4's. These men probably think their significant other is markedly better than the below average rating that I would give their female companion -- either that or they "settled", which is inexcusable.
Personally, I shot for the moon when I asked out my wife and definitely "outkicked my coverage". Every guy should do the same. Settling is not an option.

I would say a fairly significant percentage of men (80% +) would not go for a 2,3,4, or even 5 if she made $200k. Half a million, perhaps. A million...many would go for it.

I would handle this on a case by case basis. Like Iowafan1 said, one man's 4 is another man's 8. I know there are plenty of women out there that would be with a guy who was a 4 if he made $200k/year.
If my wife made $200k a year, I'd probably start up my own business doing what I enjoy. Either that or be a stay at home dad that is always out fishing or something. She'd just love it!

A hot woman will go for a guy who is rather average in looks, but nice, funny, goofy, etc . But very rarely do you see a hot guy (or a guy who just thinks he's really hot) go for the average looking, nice, funny woman. I think it's an interesting phenomenon. |

BTR - you raise a very good question. Is a 4 that makes $200K a year a hot commodity? I would have to say a 4 that is sloppy fat but kinda cute in the face would be a lot less of a hot commodity than a 4 with a not to bad body but ugly in the face. I say this because some guys I know have said, "I'd do her, I could just bag her face".

I think there is a fear that if a guy goes after a lady with a large income, the income will drop off when the babies arrive and the guy will be left with an ugly wife, no income from the gravy train and a 1985 Cutlass Ciera parked in front of his trailer to show for his efforts. The guy with decent bank on the other hand, probably seems to have more upside and is more steady with respect to the cash flow situation. Plus, I don't know if our firm is a microcosm of white collar jobs, but the ladies really do seem to drop out of the firm in their late 20's or early 30's at a much higher rate than the men. I think most places that are competitive and in hard working, boring, soul crushing industries (like law, insurance, banking) have a significant under-representation of women at the top. Personally, given the fact that young women are depreciating assets whose useful life as eye candy is very limited, as shallow and assholish as I am, I'd rather have a gal who's cool and decent looking than a gal who ain't cool but is hella hot. The cool gal will prolly always be cool, but the hot gal prolly won't always be hot. |

It's how our brains are made and how our hormones work - men's stimulations are largely visually driven. Women's aren't. Hmmmm... I wonder which sex is therefore (arguably) more evolved...

How close to closing time would it be, and how much have I had to drink?
After that, once she gets me home, who knows what the future would bring. Half the battle for them is getting a man in the door. Once they do that (and if they really are pretty nice &/or cool ladies), the battle is much easier; especially if they have a pad that has a 72" HDTV with B&O speakers.

Money...if the guy is financially stable and independent (not in loads and loads of debt, saves money, and so on)...that's good enough for me. I don't need fancy things. |

It also goes to show that having some type of job that you consider as prestigious isn't always what it may seem to be.
Being a lawyer isn't necessarily "all that" is it? I couldn't care less what my wife's job is, or how much money she makes. I'm not really that shallow.
If these chicks were looking for men, why did they choose the law career path in the first place?

You also have to keep in mind that a big part of their problem is that they're now 30 years old and not in a relationship. It's hard enough for women who don't work 60+ hours per week to meet guys when they're 30. |

My buddy dated a lawyer once. He made maybe $8.00/hr at the time. She lived in Houston and he lived in IC. Met her at the OSU game (the gold-out). She was loaded, but other than that not very interesting. Ate out a lot, ran up big drink tabs with her lawyer friends. But according to him, that was about it.
They didn't work out, but it might have had to do with the long distance thing. I told him to keep the sugar mommy no matter how boring she was. This girl was probably more like a 6-8. But he has never been one to take my advice.

Sure, hot chicks are great to look at and do other things with but when age starts to catch up with them your stuck with someone that used to be hot that you don't enjoy spending time with. The key is to find a hot chick that you do enjoy spending time with and will when your 60 as well. |
