She sent a letter to W with a bunch of rants about high energy prices and some mouthbreather laws that will likely be duplicative of those already on the books. However, this proposed law is real interesting:
"The No Oil Producing and Exporting Cartels (NOPEC) Act -- H.R. 2264
This legislation enables the Department of Justice to take legal action against foreign nations for participating in oil cartels that drive up oil prices globally and in the United States. It does so by exempting OPEC and other nations from the provisions of the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act when acting in a commercial capacity; by making clear that the so-called "Act of State" doctrine does not prevent courts from ruling on antitrust
charges brought against foreign governments; and by authorizing the Department of Justice to bring lawsuits in U.S. courts against cartel members. This bill passed the House 345-72. You have threatened to veto this legislation."
The scary thing is that this got 345 votes in the house. That should not happen. Our government has no way to enforce a judgment against OPEC or its member nations. None. Zero. Do they think Roberts will just send the National Guard to Riyadh and the boys will come back with a check?
If OPEC did show up in US court, and if I were counsel to OPEC, I'd tell them to shut down the pumps for a few days right before the jury went into deliberations and tell the world about it. Saudi Arabia could start dumping our bonds and stocks, shut down the oil (the Prince has plenty of cash to do this if he wants to) and tell us to go to hell until we want to play nice. It's very troubling to me that the House does not appreciate the symbiotic relationship we have with the Middle East, its oil and its sovereign wealth funds that own tons of our assets. This posturing is worse than the kid who had the Transformer Omega Supreme, but not a lot of other cool Transformers and who insisted on mixing Go Bots with Transformers and then threatened to take Omega Supreme home if Omega Supreme, the Go Bots and a Voltron character couldn't beat Optimus, Megatron, Bumblebee, Soundwave, Jazz, the Constructicons, the Dinobots and the Aerialbots in a battle. What a douche.
Diamond prices are fucking outrageous, go after DeBeers if you want to flex your muscle against a cartel that is fucking over hard working beer drinking American men.
