C'mon dude, they hired a female with developmental disabilities last time. I think they're due to hire an old white guy. The University should reflect the state and its people, and the people of Iowa are, by and large, old white guys.

Marketing department: Come to Iowa and you can achieve ANYTHING. Reality: Except get a top job at the U of Iowa. Imma add that to mah list of grievances the next time they beg for money.

The only thing tougher than getting admitted to an Ivy League school is getting kicked out of an Ivy League school. It's quite the racket they're running, though. It's basically a legacy mill for the global elite. Daddy's $$$ > Ivy feeder prep school > Harvard/Yale(sorry Rafael Cruz, Princeton's a fucking minor Ivy) > Daddy's connections > cush high paying jerb > PROFIT > political connections > PROFIT > Societal admiration for being a self-made man > appointment to executive boards > moar PROFIT > have kids (raised by nannies) > Repeat cycle > rave on about the American meritocracy and bitch about The author of this is a worthless piece of shit & spic kids getting free school lunches. Oh, and PROFIT. At capital gains rates. Because Job Creator.

Obviously they're going to hire the liberal, Oberlin guy. How soon until he finishes Sally's dream of destroying the phallic jockacracy on campus? Will firing Kurt immediately help or harm this goal?

It gets knocked because it doesn't have grad schools in law and biz that kick back 9 and 10 figure alumni checks, though. Princeton undergrad, Harvard MBA is perfectly acceptable in elite circles. I mean, I picture the freshman dining hall as being the kind of place where the gentlemen still wear supper jackets and begin a lot of sentences with "father." I suspect fellas liek you and me would feel liek the hired help on that campus.

The other three are just cannon fodder for that guy. Maybe his time in Michigan made him a sports fan: Marvin Krislov is the 14th president of Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio.[1] He was appointed President of Oberlin after nine years as the vice president and general counsel of the University of Michigan. A 1982 Yale College graduate with a degree in political science, Krislov attended Magdalen College, Oxford as a Rhodes scholar. He then returned to New Haven to attend Yale Law School, where he was editor of the Yale Law Journal. Krislov began his law career as a clerk for Judge Marilyn Hall Patel of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California in San Francisco. From 1989 to 1993 he served in an honors program at the U.S. Department of Justice, prosecuting cases involving police brutality and racial violence. He then spent three years at the White House Counsel's office before moving to the U.S. Department of Labor, where he served as Acting Solicitor until leaving the office to become vice president and general counsel at the University of Michigan. In 1998, Krislov became the first person to serve as both vice president and general counsel at the University of Michigan. As general counsel to the University, he dispensed legal services on matters ranging from defending affirmative action to appealing penalties levied against the Michigan Wolverines basketball team by the National Collegiate Athletic Association. In addition to managing legal affairs, Krislov served as co-chair of the President's Task Force on Ethics in Public Life, an initiative designed to consider establishing a center for research, teaching and learning that will integrate academic study with "real-world problems." He was also an adjunct professor at both the University of Michigan's Law School and its Political Science department, where he taught upper-level seminars on public policy and the law. He is a member of a variety of academic service organizations, including the American Anthropological Association's Project Advisory Board on Race and Human Variation, the Michigan Rhodes Scholars Selection Committee, and the Executive Committee of the University of Michigan Institute for Labor and Industrial Relations. Krislov's community service activities include leadership positions in the Washtenaw County Jewish Foundation and the United Way of Washtenaw County, as well as membership on boards of arts organizations including the Mosaic Youth Theatre of Detroit and the University Musical Society. He also served as an alderman in New Haven shortly after graduating from Yale. Krislov's awards and achievements include recognition from the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund for his leadership in taking the fight for affirmative action all the way to the Supreme Court. The author of numerous articles on amicus briefs and affirmative action, he has helped organize a traveling multimedia exhibit on the University of Michigan's affirmative action lawsuits and the Brown v. Board of Education decision.[2] He was married in 1991 to Amy Ruth Sheon, a scientist specializing in the research of HIV in women and children. He has 3 children, Zac, Jesse, and Evie Rose.[3]

Don't know if you watched the video but U of I history professor Katherine Tachau was my favorite. She makes $111K to teach our future leaders about history, why business sucks, and why career academics have done it better for years. She starts at about the 1:40 mark.

She makes $111K to teach our feature leader about history, why business sucks, and why career academics have done it better for years. She starts at about the 1:40 mark. Don't get me wrong. I value academics for academic's sake because it's imperative that people learn to fucking think critically. But the U of I is a business in fierce competition with other institutions. Maybe this guy is a huge douchebag; I have no idea. He sure seems to understand what The U is up against though. Adapt or die. I think you need a keen business mind in this position. You don't need some fucking career academic. The president's not teaching or conducting research for crissakes. And let's not kid ourselves...with top flight med and law, academics is gonna rule. The UIHC in particular is such a money printing machine that nobody is gonna fuck with that cash cow and live to see another day. I mean look at the fucking place. You can walk half a mile indoors, one way. Also, maybe we'll at long last get a fucking tigerhawk on the water tower. But if I were a betting man, my money would be on the Oberlin College guy. Because Lickliter.

Because Lickliter. Jesus, her quote was hilarious. Does she have a fucking clue that if any business was directly funded by the State, had guaranteed access to federal funds that allowed consumers to buy its products, didn't have to pay any taxes and sold something that 50% of 18 year olds think is indispensable, that no such business could ever collapse? Career academics have demonstrated a level of self-interest protectionism that is absolutely on par with whatever the biggest group of assholes you can find in business, as well. Corporate c-level guys, big law partners, investment bank managing directors - they're all self interested and they show it, but the fucking academics have done the exact same thing. When confronted with resource scarcity, rather than be egalitarian practitioners of what they preach, they have devised an adjunct system of procuring labor that would likely be illegal if done by a for-profit business. They have also virtually locked the door on tenure, similar to what large law firms or investment banks have done vis-a-vis promotions, but use the allure of the brass ring to keep the adjuncts and bottom rung labor in line and to coalesce around some social justice narrative. The university system is becoming a fucking joke - we have a 100+ year head start on other countries and the advantage that English is the lingua franca that makes it a destination for foreigners, but these fucks are trying their best to shit all over it. The Oberlin guy has the job, no fucking doubt in my mind.
