Looks like we were both wrong. Psaki shot that shit argument down as moot. The 15k value hasn't been changed yet because there has been no need to yet this year. Once the number of refugee requests nears that mark in 2021, the number will be revised. I suppose you could give them the benefit of the doubt, but actions speak louder that words. "We'll raise the number later, when we need to" is an odd thing to say when "We'll raise the number now because we want to" is also an option. To me personally, it sounds like they're kicking the can down the road to get the heat off them right now, but who knows. Not their words. Me paraphrasing Psaki's press conference today.

Marijuana legalization has broad bipartisan support so it seems an obvious good move. History has proven conclusively that prohibition doesn’t work and just pushes that sector of the economy underground.

History has proven conclusively that prohibition doesn’t work and just pushes that sector of the economy underground. It will finally become legal when the bulk of the hippie-hating boomers die or finally figure out it can help with some of their ailments. Guaranteed legal across the US in 10 years. Just in time to burn one while the world burns.

My dude, Biden is the architect of the war on drugs. This isn't going to happen with him in charge. Plus, NO ONE hates weed more than rich white people who have children that are addicts.

Not the whole war on drugs, just the shit from '93 on. 'Pubs talked shit on Biden for that during the election and while it probably should have been a major ding in the primary, the '93 crime bill completely turned America's cities around and I give Jim Crow Joe a lot of credit for it. For fuck's sake, if you look at a place like DC, NYC or Chicago the city proper was a no go zone save for a buffer zone around downtown and maybe a handful of residential neighborhoods. There was a massive shift inside of 10 years. Of course, that is now deemed "gentrification" and is bad. With police defunding and social narratives that will cause a diminution in the already diminished IQ of police forces, the next 10-20 years around those cities will be interesting. It will be a challenge to see if the pendulum swings the other way.

This revisionist history is total bullshit. Violent crime was a huge problem.

This revisionist history is total bullshit. Violent crime was a huge problem. Of course they supported it because large swaths of major cities were war zones. I suspect that at least Chicago won't revert to those '70's-'90's numbers because Daley tore down the projects like Cabrini Green, Robert Taylor, and all that stuff on the south side. A lot of Chicago's population loss is actually the tear down of the projects. Daley had a huge federal grant and used the money to move people to places like Iowa City, Fort Wayne and Kenosha. Because of the lower population, the raw numbers will be hard to get above the 970 high water mark set in '74. But they got to 769 last year.

My brother and a few of his classmates from Notre Dame were doing a weekend in Chicago (no doubt drinking their asses off) and somehow ended up in the Cabrini Green area late at night. These were exactly the kind of guys you'd expect from Notre Dame: White, overprivileged, arrogant AF. A cabbie whipped by, slammed on the brakes, asked them what the hell they were doing and if they knew where they were and told them to get in the car or they were gonna die. They prolly owe that dude their lives. Man, my dad was fucking PISSED when he found out about that one.

If you're selling drugs on the corner in the projects, the last thing you want is some rich white kid to die. That will only bring the bacon sniffing around. Would they get robbed for being in the wrong neighborhood? Hell yeah. Murdered for wandering in the wrong neighborhood? Unlikely.

NY day '99 I went to the Taylor homes with my buddy to buy 'dro. We were way out of place. The entrepreneur running the operation assured us no one would fuck with us and no one did. They know to take care of the customers.
