Damn, that guy would get suspended if not disbarred in SC. The lawyer oath requires civility in all dealings with all parties involved in a matter and they've disbarred dudes for less than that. Civility, but not general fuckery and lies

Need a non-binding legal opinion... Offered a "temporary voluntary Reduced Work Schedule"... Which I can choose... 10%, 20%, 50% reduction for a period of time... Or leave of absence for 1 month or 3 months... Or Quit & get a pitiful severance.
My question for the lawyers. Is the phrasing of "voluntary" an exclusionary term making the LOA -NOT- a furlough, allowing for unemployment?

I don't know Iowa law, but in a lot of states, voluntary means "good fucking luck getting unemployment." How long do you have to "decide?" If not for The Germ, how would prospects be otherwise? I would take the reduced work schedule. I don't know about your outfit, but LOA at a lot of companies turns into "Welp, SoCal was gone for 3 months and we didn't hit an iceberg so tell him to fuck off..." How much severance are they offering? I gotta think take the reduction and then force them to fire you is gonna be best bet. Where do you work and what are you doing these days?

ACT - Business Analyst / Scrum Master / Product Owner. Lead the team breaking down technical work & generally manage. Severance would be 2 weeks per year there... so either 4 or 5 weeks. The question on the unemployment site asks - is this Covid Related... which bypasses 99% of the other requirements. Proof of work, etc. So I'm still leaning towards a LOA. Salary reduction when adding the unemployment + $600/wk... and savings, will be a relaxing month or 3. That said, as is an at-will state - they could say fuck off anyways. However that sweet sweet $600/wk might not exist by that time.

Called unemployment to ask the question. Even though is "voluntary"... is still due to Covid.

I have a bad feeling about LOA because I think they'll 86 you. Has ACT even been hurt that bad by The Germ? I guess they would have missed some tests. I think long term they are fucked, though, because the SJW infiltration in higher ed has undertaken a concerted effort to do away with standardized testing, which is utterly going to skullfuck ACT's stable cash cow business. I would surmise ACT's non-core business units are probably running at like 10-20% capacity, too. Fuck. This is a tough call.

Brother is wicked smaht and works as an engineer designing cutting-edge electronic circuit equipment for large applications - office buildings, factories. He leads a team, has received awards from his company, whose name is immediately recognizable. During the virus he has had to work from home, take a 20 percent pay cut and lose some of his CTO and holiday benefits. No one at his company has been assured they’ll have a job when bidness returns.
Sucks.

With the cancelled test dates and forecast / reduction in enrollments due to space constraints/closed schools - they said they need to find $66 Million to make us whole for the fiscal year budget. ---If any indication, we now have an interim CEO - so if recent one is normal CEO-like, he is gently gliding down with his golden parachute. But all levels are getting hit. If they want to get the new systems/technical enhancements done that are on the master plan, they better leave our groups pretty much alone.

Fuck. Sorry to hear that man. I'd have a chat with a lawyer (employment law in your state) and pose that question to him/her. You'll likely have to fight. Or, you can force their hand and say that you cannot choose any of those options. That will either force them to fire you, or furlough you so they will continue paying your medical costs and unemployment. They are trying to fuck the system and employees. Regardless, they are a SHIT company and you need to leave by giving you only those options.

He said he called the unemployment office and they indicated that if you got laid off due to The Germ that the normal requirements for unemployment go away. Do you have any god damned idea how bad it is out there? Any at all? I talk to guys damned near everyday about PPP loans and credit agreement waivers and amendments. Like 90% of companies with a credit facility are in fucking covenant default right now because revenues of everything other than Amazon, grocery stores and a handful of big box stores have fallen by 70% or more instantly. Almost everyone has to slash the shit out of payroll, none of them are trying to fuck the system or their employees. They don't have a god damned choice. SoCal's outfit has a $66 million revenue hole and dim prospects for getting it filled. It's honorable that they made it until the end of May before getting to him on the slash and burn list.

They aren't likely to close up shop at all. $66M is their forecasted delta for the next fiscal year. So they wanted to start cost savings ASAP to prevent longer term whiplash. That said, I'm not optimistic for contractors at FYend (Aug/Sep). They have savings/a reserve to go for a few years without revenue if needed. This is all a way to prepare/lessen shit. Relatedly - if anyone has lots of extra $$$ to invest, they are one of the biggest land owners in Iowa City... and they jokingly said in the meeting yesterday they might be open to selling some. (Most of the empty Scott Blvd area & beyond). Edit: I took the 1 month Leave of Absence. Can survive for the 3 months if needed without issue, if no issues getting unemployment - Could care less how long.

ALL of that bullshit is in fact worded so that you cannot collect unemployment insurance. Some clever lawyering there for your employer. I suppose there’s a question whether it’s de facto termination or whether the novel rules under the PPP legislation suspend the traditional criteria.

Likely saw it as a long term investment. With the advancement of technology, even outside of land - there are 2 huge unused office buildings - one is a huge one that predates ADA & would cost a fortune to make compliant.

If Trump rigs the election, who the fuck will investigate and/or prosecute? BINGO! NOBODY WILL I love you guys. I love that you guys point out to me that we both can look at a similar story, peel some shit back and both credibly come up with a scenario where "our team" or whatever gets fucked and no matter what, there will be massive salt mining the morning after the election. I already know what is going to happen. Some states will do some mail ballots and they'll be fucked, some fucked for the Ds, some fucked for the Rs. Broward County fuckery will mysteriously produce 120k ballots days after the election, 98% of which are for Quid Pro. Other states will have a clusterfuck of epic proportions at polls with 8 hour lines that stretch over a mile due to social distancing from The Germ. There will be a mile long volley of online comments back and forth, as jagoffs try to one up each other with evidence their side got fucked worse, while ignoring all other evidence. Look, I fucking dislike Quid Pro and think he's a greasy snake (and I know your thoughts on Drumpfhitler). I hate the DNC with a fucking passion after living under their god damned reign of terror in Illinois. But if Quid Pro wins straight up, so be it. The thing that pisses me off is that the god damned elections in Afghanistan are more fucking secure and credible and I already know this thing is going to be a clusterfuck of epic proportions.

If there is a huge increase in mail in ballots, I honestly believe that the media will be shitting chickens wanting to call the election when 1/4 of possible votes haven't been counted which could be enough to swing an election, especially if one side has no fear of the virus and will pack those gyms so they can be Murican and vote in person, because they aren't pussies and make the vote look different than what the actual results will be. If that would side for shitler with the in person vote, but the mail ins are heavy towards Biden they'll be walking back all of those "Election alert calls" where they believe Shitler may have won, not counting the mail in votes.
Oh well, I just hope that no matter what happens that Shitler gets curbstomped by record amounts that would make Mondale say "What a shitty candidate."

Are you saying that you don't believe all women? I know it changed from "believe all women" to just "believe women" when Tara Reade came forward, but that's beside the point. Ron is a man and is in the wrong.
