Dad owned a trucking company when I was a kid. Yes. I know the movie well and have an affinity to it & the song. Also, I miss BJ (McKay) and (his best friend) the Bear.

Convoy is pretty good, but ifn im in the mood for a good werkin man vs corrupt Scherff movie Ima go wif James Garner in Tank. Theres no catchy song but it's about a solder and I'm very pro military and a patriot.

Ernest Borgnine with his best Jackie Gleason imitation. I wonder how many Oscars that film won? Surely it’s a record number.

Ernest Borgnine with his best Jackie Gleason imitation. I wonder how many Oscars that film won? Surely it’s a record number. That is correct. It tied the record low, which is 0. The Academy has an utter disdain for men like Socal's father. Look at the awards from '79. The true test of a piece of art like Convoy is if you can watch it 40 years hence and have it resonate. The truckers were protesting, and the know nothings in government couldn't figure out what. Was it the double nickel? Was it gas prices? Was it the Teamsters trying to organize rogue independents like Rubber Duck? Yes, yes, yes. Anything and everything. In looking down the list of best picture candidates that year, "An Unmarried Woman," which sounds like a cheesy prelude to Sex And the City, is likely the only one to hold a fairly timeless message. And the ol' CB, that was just like 4chan is today. A free for all where you can meet fellow lonely men and where you might be talking to a bear (either a cop or the gay kind). You don't know. That's why Convoy works. It's fucking timeless. AND, it has Rubber Duck laying down a lot lizard at a fucking truck stop, plus Ernest Borgnine shooting a M-60 at a fuel truck. I honestly don't know what more a movie could possibly have. Maybe the volleyball scene from Top Gun and some F-14s shooting down Migs, plus maybe some stock cars, but at that point, it would be too much awesomeness.

After reading your post I looked up the Academy Awards for that year and noticed that not only did Convoy not win any of the categories, it didn’t even receive any nominations. I plan on voicing my displeasure at this slight by boycotting the movies until further notice.

Pulled it up over lunch and watched the first 20+ minutes. Doesn't have the staying power in my brain as when I was ~10 years old. Had to turn it off at the truckstop when Borgnine was getting all racey with Spider Mike. Perhaps the 2 seconds of the side nip in the bunk was what made me like it then... Other than that, not sure what I saw in it besides the recognition of the song from the radio. Holy CRAP!!! They say Rubber Duck on the Song and Rubber Duck is in the movie too!!! Young mind blown.
