Yeah, the media and government were full of shit on that. Of course nothing happened, no one was prosecuted or kicked out of the senior ranks of the military industrial complex, nothing was changed, but this was just a one off thing and government and media are totally trustworthy now.
And we got this gem out of Dave Chappelle. One of his best skits ever.

We went to war in Iraq so the GOP would win the 2002 midterms, which they did. Creating an oil rich US client state in the heart of the middle east was a nice side benefit (how'd that one work out *cough* sectarian war *cough*) but make no mistake, it was all about the politics.
No need to overanalyze it.

No need to overanalyze it. We already have an oil rich client state in the heart of the Middle East. This war started after the midterms, as well. We started this war because our defense contractors didn't like the prospects of what Uncle Sugar would need to buy in Afghanistan. Needed another front. I never really understood how the neocons got everyone to fall into line so well for Iraq. Afghanistan makes sense, we had a lot of bloodthirst after 9/11. I was living in Japan and still don't understand how the US rolled into Iraq, but when I moved back to the Estado Unidos in May of 2003 there was a camp of about 87% of the populace that was insistent we had to go fight Iraq relying on some very transparent propaganda techniques.

Lol, link? Yeah, you're right. What the hell am I talking about? Guys like Bush and Rumsfeld would never use propaganda. People just organically developed the position that "if you're against the war you're for the terrorists" all on their own.

Come on brah. The entire run up to this war was so they could hold votes and paint Democrats as cowards and traitors.
