As someone technically without healthcare I can attest to this. We use Christian Healthcare Ministries which is a cost sharing entity. We have to get all the paperwork and negotiate prices with the providors.

We have to get all the paperwork and negotiate prices with the providors. It’s ridiculous. Everything contributes to the cost of healthcare. It needs a big reset. All the medical companies make money off of US healthcare. They have the same stuff in Europe but they can’t charge the fees they do because they don’t allow it. I asked a GE sales rep once if they sold many of “product x” in Europe and he said no and not for the same price. He said they lose money in Europe so obviously they are making up for it in the US. The contracts for “maintenance” with vendors is also a money racket. For some of our interfaces with other systems we pay over $5000 per month. Radiology equipment all has expensive monthly fees. There is no way an MRI scan should cost $9000 dollars. But depending on the kind that’s what they charge. It’s all just made up marked up prices.

There is no reason why every single hospital needs an MRI and CT scan, plus several clinics in a city the size of Waterloo. A small town hospital like the one in nearby Waukon, a town of only 2-3k people in a county with maybe 14k with a large city 30 miles away doesn't need these machines. Also the cost of health insurance is a scam. What we have costs $544/ month for the two of us. If I were to have a heart attack it would cost me nothing. Why can't insurance companies make this model work? Short answer is profit for stockholders.

Health care in the US is a gravy train with biscuit wheels. Especially the tech shit. You let one widget in because it connects two systems. Great. Fast forward a year. Oh, the contract is up for renewal? Wait, what, it costs 3x what the last one was? WTF? Oh, it would cost a quarter of a million bucks to get rid of the piece now? Welp, let's just pay them.
