I got the axe at work today. They say its budget cuts. I have severance through the end of the month, which means money through mid-March.
Funny thing is, I'm not too freaked out. I believe that God is good, and this is just a push in the right direction. I've already got a couple of leads on some various gigs, so we'll see how things pan out.
At this rate, socal and I will have to meet in STL to drink ourselves silly.

Sorry, hear MoHawk bro. Glad to hear you have a positive attitude about it...I would think that's key in getting back in workforce. It seems you would have a pretty magnetic personality to have some solid leads.
This shit is starting to get a little scary, though...

This shit is starting to get a little scary, though... No doubt. Sorry to hear you got the axe MoHawk. Hopefully you land back on your feet in the next few weeks. Good luck.

Hey, this gives you an excuse to get of of Missoura. I heard there is a pretty good radio job open at Learfield Sports. Something about a color commentator..
Good luck finding a new job. I'm sure you will be fine as well.
We should start a lottery to guess who will be the next Wastelander to get the axe.

That sucks, but glad you're looking to turn it into a positive, versus negative situation.
Anything we can do to help out (trust me....don't use anyone here as a reference unless you're applying for a drinking job)....let us know.

Tough break, dude, but it was time you got out of that dying industry anyway. Seriously, let us know if there is anything we can do to help.

I certainly will. I've got a few leads already on a couple of different PR type gigs, so hopefully something pans out sooner rather than later. I get severance through the end of the month, which means cash through mid-March, so I'd like to find something to start on March 2nd, in an ideal situation.

More layoffs around the Des Moines area this past week. This is really getting crazy. Mohawk, sorry to hear about your deal, but at least you have some cash flow to last you until March. I'm sure you won't have any problems. This is one time where I can say I'm glad I have a relatively secure job!

Sorry to hear about that Matt. I would have thought you were safe being in the radio biz. I guess no place is safe. A local hospital is cutting out overtime because "business is slow", LMAO. I would suspect the next step for them is to layoff secretaries, janitorial etc. Anybody, anywhere.

What really saddens me the most is that they effecitvely stuck the knife in a local icon of KFRU in Columbia. That radio station is on in every power players office everyday...we are/were the heartbeat of the city.
I'll land on my feet somewhere and I'm not worried too much. I'd be lying if I said if I weren't scared, but everything will work out the way it is supposed to in the end. I trust in God and believe He will provide for me.

Dude - sorry to hear.
FWIW, the uncertainty sucks - and you start absorbing the omnipresent not-so-good news a bit more... but as soon as you realize that people will help you any way you can, and that the "socialist" benefits you will get in one week are better than the annual incomes of half the world --- the worries are reduced a bit. Also, I've found peace in saying to myself during times of worry - "You lived through 8 years of George W Bush, you can survive anything."
If nothing else pans out, I'm thinking of recruiting Seth with us and we can become a traveling comedy trio... Leprechaun dude (you), Hulk (Seth), and whatever descriptive nickname you can come up with for me.

Our whole company was handed "Succession Planning Profile" forms to fill out. Basically, you just report what you do, how long you have been doing it and what your strengths, weakness, accomplishments and developmental opportunities are. I can't help but think some shit is about to hit the fan once our busy season is over here in the next month or so. This was given to us at the same time as an annoucement that they will be "freezing" raises for a 1 year period.

Good luck.
