Why do I get the feeling we in Iowa just elected the next Sarah Palin? Maybe she will will surprise and be a good senator and for now I will give her the benefit if the doubt and support her. I fear, tho, the rest of the country will soon be laughing at us and the rubes of rural Iowa will be too stupid to see it. The way Iowa seems to work she is now a senator for life. Um.........

Keep in mind that the GOP will be defending a shit load of Senate seats, and depending on how shitty this new version of congress does, they'll see massive losses and possibly another Dem Supermajority in the Senate. With the gerrymandering (as thunder pointed out earlier) it will be harder to win back the house, but in those 2 years, we could see courts go and redraw those districts citing obvious reasons why those districts were drawn the way they were to give the GOP a huge advantage with their base.

The Demonrats face another huge problem, perhaps an existential one: Multibillion dollar omnipresent right wing propaganda which exists solely to demonize the Democratic party. The Democraps are on the right side of nearly every issue. Even Obamacare is popular when presented as its constituent parts. Hell, in several states last night the same electorate that overwhelmingly supported Republicunts also easily passed minimum wage and other "progressive" measures, measures expressly supported by the Dimorats and expressly opposed by the Repulikkkans. Wither the disconnect? Enter Rush, enter Fox, enter the "liberal" corporate media regurgitating the GOP narrative. All day, all night, all the time. The people who soak that shit up would just as soon vote for a guy who raped their kid over some Democrat. And there are millions of people who soak that shit up, and they are older, whiter, and they vote like it's religion. I don't expect much from government. I know how it works, who it works for. BUT My kids better have good schools, my roads better be smooth, my air and water better be clean, and my streets better be safe. Also, I'd appreciate people not dying on the streets for lack of medical treatment. BTW if these fucks mess around with the debt ceiling and fuck up my portfolio, Katie bar the door. Hello, 2nd Amendment remedies.

Hello, 2nd Amendment remedies. Glad to see you supporting the Second Amendment, Thor. I sorta put the First and the Second together -- think they go hand-in-hand, particularly if Obummer's FEC starts to seriously think about cracking down on bloggers, online columnists, message boards (like this one) and even commenters on news sites. At first Obama came for the tea partiers, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a tea partier. Then Obama came for the gun owners, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a gun owner. Then Obama came for the Christians, and I didn't speak out because in this example let's just say I'm not a Christian because I need to flesh this out a bit. Finally, he came for the message board trolls, and there was no one left to speak out for me. TROLOLOLOLOL

Sparky, the 2nd Amendment was passed to deal with insurrections AGAINST the government vis a vis the Article I, Section 8, Clause 15 militias: press-pubs.uchicago.edu/founders/tocs/a1_8_15.html. This is why the 2nd Amendment references fucking militias. It's a complete 180 degree lie to claim that the founders enacted the 2nd Amendment so that they could be on the receiving end of a musket if they got all tyrannical and shit. That's just complete fucking bullshit and a total misrepresentation of history. This is not my opinion. This is a fact as revealed by the plain language of the constitution. Hell, I bet if you ask 100 gun nuts if they knew what was enunciated in Article 1, section 8, clause 15, 100 of these constitutional scholars would look at you with a dead-eyed derp face. Google "Whiskey Rebellion" if you'd like to see it all in action. Your Joni Ernst 9MM versus Uncle Sam scenario is sedition, or possibly Article III treason.

I still don't understand why people were so butthurt over this:
If you help me win this race, you may have someone with your background, your experience, your voice, someone who’s been literally fighting tort reform for 30 years, in a visible or public way, on the Senate Judiciary Committee. Or, you might have a farmer from Iowa who never went to law school, never practiced law, serving as the next chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

I don't know if you can relate to this, but it would be like going on serious Nation a few years ago and ripping on Kirt.

I mean, I honestly have nothing against the guy, even politically really, but his skeletor ass needs to go. I felt the same way about Harkin. Both of them were Senators when I learned what Senators were. No one...ABSOLUTELY NO ONE, should be in Congress for 40 years.

That said I don't think it was the worship of Grassley but the fact that he was basically saying "he's just a farmer". That just isn't something you do when trying to get elected in a rural agricultural state like Iowa. The fact that he is a lawyer probably didn't help either.

Who would you rather have building the new four lane suspension bridge over the Mississippi river A)a civil engineer with 30 years of experience in building bridges or 2) a cardiologist with 40 years of medical experience?

If Grassley was talking to a group of farmers and said "We run the risk of a guy who's never farmed in his life chairing the agricultural committee", people would be all liek LULZ. But stupid farmers get some kind of protected status even though they work 16 weeks a year, and all they do is tell the machines what to do.

While I would be a big fan of term limits, under the current system, the only way for low population states to get any money out of the federal trough is to have senators who have outlived all their contemporaries and risen to positions of power on some commitee with oversite for some kind of spending. I dont make the rules, i am just splainen them to you.

See, I'm not fuckin stupid. I don't mock farmers or doctors or janitors. I mock Republicans, because they are dumber than fuck and often psychopathic, and I mock Democrats, because they are gutless, flaccid weaklings, but I know how to make a point.
Watch and learn:
"If the Republicans gain control of the Senate, the new chair of the judiciary committee will be a guy who thinks Tony Scalia is the ideal supreme court justice. That's not my opinion, that's what he's said. Can you imagine the destruction a supreme court full of Tony Scalias would render upon this nation?"
See, I just dinged Grassley, I just pissed on Fat Tony, and I didn't provide a shit flake of ammo to these cunt oppo research fags.

Kind of like farmers wanting to elect a person who despises the federal government, because it's not like the federal government does anything for farmers.

Billiam, since your graph is so far off on the real percentage of people who are unemployed, i think it may cast some doubt on the validity of some of the otter numbers.
