I don’t think the current electric vehicles are actually the internal combustion killer. They’ve got too many issues of their own, most notably range anxiety and charge time, not to mention battery degradation. I think what Tesla et al are doing is creating the mindset that the gas powered engine isn’t the only competitive game in town...and that paradigm change is when the gas powered engine goes on the endangered species list. Next some tech that solves the EV problems will evolve and that’ll be the asteroid vs dinosaurs moment for gas engines. I don’t know when that happens but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s within 15 or 20 years. There are some amazing 48 Volt "Mild" Hybrid technologies out there to improve the current combustion engines. Once companies get smart and work towards a standard, we will get where we need to be. Isn't that the same system they've been using in Formula 1? I can see that cutting energy demand somewhat, but any savings there will be negated by population growth in the West. The Geo Metro was probably the most fuel-efficient car ever built and engines today are even more efficient but by the time you lop on higher safety standards, you wind up needing an engine that cranks 75% more ponies than the Metro did just to move the box around and bam, bye bye efficiency. How much efficiency do you think a 48V system will generate?

I think combustion engines themselves are fucked. They have far too many moving parts. They look laughably complicated compared to these newer battery powered rigs, and the EV torque advantage is massive. These EV “engines” are qualitatively and radically superior to combustion engines. They’ve just got issues of their own to overcome. I would submit however that if they get the range and recharging times to be comparable to combustion engines, nobody who test drives an EV is going to opt for a gas car assuming a competitive price.

Interesting the colonial pipeline CEO admitted paying 4.4 million in ransom to hackers to get pipeline reopened. Yeah, it was clear last week they paid the ransom. It was 100 BTC. The hackers supposedly couldn't unlock it unless the BTC was deposited and Top Men from the government were helpless. The conspiracy theory, if I may present it, is that this was actually an attack on crypto because this ransomware wouldn't have been possible without the use of crypto and it was designed to push for the government to "do something about it." But that's just the conspiracy theory so take it for what it's worth.

Hallelujah!!!! That sumnabitch was gonna flood 500k barrels of US shale per day onto the oil market. This is long term bullish for Exxon holders. The shale boyz will have to pay ol Papa Warren to carry it via rail. Rejoice.

Use eminent domain against American property owners to pump dirty ass Canadian shale across American soil onto the export market? Fuck outta here with that bullshit.

There is already one pumping Canadian shale that was completed in phases between 2010 and 2017. They needed these parts to be able to pump Bakken shale from North Dakota and Montana into the existing line. This was just the final phase of the pipeline. I'm all for anything that keeps Bakken shale off the world market. And I was mistaken, this phase could have pumped up to 800k barrels a day. That's getting dangerously close to 1% of the global daily oil demand.

Plants make food and energy out of sun and water. Plants. We’re dumber than plants.

Exxon has some process to make hydrocarbons out of algae, but that shit is really fucking hard to scale. Scale is the biggest issue with everything in energy. Pretty much every energy source aside from hydrocarbons and electricity is really difficult to scale. And if you need to add mobility for a highly energy intensive activity, electricity becomes 1000 times harder to scale. A barrel of oil packs a fuckload of energy into a highly mobile (compared to other energy sources) package.

We can easily generate enough juice using solar and wind renewables. What we can't to is store them when we have excess for use when we have a deficit in production.

More pipelines in Ukraine. More jobs for politburo family members working for those pipelines. Vlad said they're cutting 500k barrels per day of production. Exxon just hit another all time high. What a time to be alive.
