Germans, man. As for EVs I heard on Bloomberg or CNBC yesterday that in 3Q they constituted 17% of all new vehicle sales. That's a huge number. IMO Tesla is fucked once EVs comprise something approaching a majority of new car sales. People will stick with their brands.

We looked real hard at the VW ID.4 but just not quite ready pull the trigger on electric. Sharp car though.

I do not miss my old ICE car and prefer my EV over my wife's ICE on road trips. Did a nice trip to Dallas for Thanksgiving and was super easy charging along the way. Only needed 2 stops along the way to charge which was nice to piss and stretch out and get shit for the kids.
That said, thank fucking God I don't have a Tesla.
The Kia EV6 is a damn good car and has a better charging curve than pretty much any other car out there.

Even though I only take 1-2 trips from Iowa -> MiniSoda a year, I have the thought of being stranded somewhere without a charging station... so I've only advanced to the PHEV stage at this point. I did put down a deposit on one of these a while back... aptera.us/ ... with an estimated delivery date of 2024

Those fucking dealers are just clenching at the fact that EVs require far less maintenance and repairs. Plus, most dealerships are owned by far right wing assholes. They can eat shit. You know who won’t suffer a bit? Tire producers and retailers

My only concern is the batteries. How long will they last? Does it make a difference that we usually keep a new car 5-6 years and put on close to 20k miles a year. Hell my F150 is a 2006 I bought new.

I’d imagine at some point we’d reach a point where you’d swap out batteries for a few grand. Technology is always improving

You know who won’t suffer a bit? Tire producers and retailers Tire producers already got gutted by a technological shift. It was the change from bias ply tires to radials. People went from buying tires every 12-18 months to buying tires every few years. It absolutely cratered their market and the industry collapsed, leading to major consolidation that left just a few big global players. If EVs supplant ICEs, which I am skeptical about (I think a more viable model would have been plug in hybrids with 100-ish miles of EV range), it is going to lead to similar consolidation in the auto industry. Component manufacturers will collapse first, as the lack of stuff like transmissions and valve springs will cascade through the whole supply chain. Eventually, the OEMs will be forced to consolidate down to maybe 4 global players, possibly 3. Toyota in Asia, VW in Europe and the tallest midget in the US.

Kind of electric car related, what is everybody paying for gas these days? I think we are higher than most in our little corner of Iowa at $3.09/ gal.

That motherfucking Diesel just won't come down, though. Shit is still like $4 a gallon. I think there has been plenty of demand destruction for oil, next step will be for diesel to come down and the general price level will start chasing it down.

Looks like we are pulling the trigger on a full Electric car tomorrow. Shit with the son's car... yadda yadda, he's getting our older hybrid. Shopping around and for the price to specs, loving the Kia EV6. Dealer let us drive it over the weekend - holy shit am I worried about getting a ticket in that thing.
Just deciding if I want a slightly lower price ($400) & features, but 282 mile range or $50 more a month for more gadgets & 252 mile range.

I noticed last fall someone installed a charging station on city property here in Lansing last fall. It is for public use. Is this something Alliant Energy would do? I don't think our city paid for it. Just curious.

Plug in hybrid has to be the winner. Dear God give me a pickup with 50 mile range and a gas backup. Dodge ram charger is gonna be interesting I read an article on how the US is doing PHEV bass-ackwards. We are taking a gas drive system and adding a battery & electric motor. Others are taking electric cars & adding a gas powered generator --- with much better ranges. The only thing I can think of is the auto-parts lobby is exerting their pressure. Our PHEV gets 25ish miles in the winter and around 40 when warm. Until I'm comfortable with there being level 3 chargers along our route/destination, we won't be taking the full electric on long road trips. Is likely being overly cautious because we have 100% charged at home.

Main battery system with four motors hundred and fifty mile battery only rage. Decent size v six gasser under the hood to act as a generator to power the batteries. Over six hundred mile range total. It also qualifies for the full seventy five hundred dollar tax credit. With those kind of numbers, you're looking at A52 $1000. Pickup truck , that would save me a hundred and fifty 22 hundred dollars a month in fuel cost.
