www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2015/07/150717104920.htmMore improvements on the way. "Researchers have developed a very promising prototype of a new solar celll. The material gallium phosphide enables their solar cell to produce the clean fuel hydrogen gas from liquid water. Processing the gallium phosphide in the form of very small nanowires is novel and helps to boost the yield by a factor of ten. And does so using ten thousand times less precious material."

This is basic laboratory science. Cripes people, you have to start somewhere. Lab to everyday use often does take decades, but when it takes hold, the new technology revolutionizes everything.

BTW....through the first 19 days of operation my little system has generated 356.1 kilowatt-hours of power. or 18.74 per day. At this rate I'll generate 6840 kilowatt-hours in 365 days, far exceeding my usage and the excess coming back to me as a credit at 3.6 cents per kilowatt. (I used approx 4800 kilowatt-hours in 2014). Big whoop right, well...that also includes free juice.
Yes, I know the shorter days and less intense sunlight will mean less kW generated as we go through the four seasons, but that's offset by lower demand when the A/C isn't running.
Anyway, things are looking 'bright' thus far.

Your understanding of the time value of money equation seems to be lacking.

Your understanding of the time value of money equation seems to be lacking. In what vehicle exactly am I missing out on this precious time value?? If I were 25 maybe, but not at 56. 1% interest in a CD or the stocks which are going to hit a ceiling, or bonds which suck, or real estate with a multiple payback period too...or...or...long term power freedom. Besides, $9.3K, really, doesn't make for a spit in my portfolio. I have enough other avenues working for me I scarcely miss it. In fact I don't. So, what are you going to (invest, spend, waste away) your next $9.3K of discretionary income on?

Did your homeowners insurance increase? Nope. I have it insured for replacement anyway, not market value. Lots of room at the top to wriggle.

Right before you've made your money back you start paying more. Oops. Let's just say that Durant isn't on the cutting edge of paying attention to much. I doubt they'll even remember it in five years since the Sam Drucker who drives away snooping at properties probably won't be alive anyway.

Why increase the net worth of your house if you haven't nor have any plans on leaving it? Congrats, you upped your taxes. Oh, someday I will...when I head up to the Vet's home in Marshalltown. Or, I'll just take a reverse mortgage on the place. Or, since it's paid for, just sell it outright and pocket the increases and laugh all the way down to FL. Choices, choices.
