We got Netflix so we've been watching more movies lately. As you can tell by the following titles, the wife has picked them out so far.
Up in the Air - was surprised...I don't care much for George Clooney, but really liked this movie. I thought it had a solid underlying message as well.
500 Days of Summer - it was decent. The byline of the movie is "this is not a love story." Well, it pretty much is, but there's enough humor in it to enjoy it. Not fantastic...but decent.
Away we Go - sucked balls. No point to the movie. A couple wanders around the nation looking for a place to call home. Had potential but went nowhere.
Any others out there?

Away we Go had about 2 funny moments (the friends in Phoenix and Jim from the Office yelling at his hippie friend).
Shutter Island was pretty good. On the low end of Scorcese films, but a decent movie.

I was wondering about Shutter Island...think I'll add that to my queue.

I loved Up in the Air. If I ever rise to the level of chainsaw guy in a biz, I am going to use that line about empires.

You should watch the movie "UP", like all other Pixar movies, it's pretty good and some cool eye candy. Smoke a bunch of OG Kush or Deisel topped with Bubble Hash first for optimal enjoyment.

I'm not a fan of Pixar movies, but I'd watch 'Up'. I think it was the highest reviewd movie of the year.

I wasn't a huge fan of up. It was decent, but didn't do much for me other then the cool animation. It certainly wasn't Wall-E caliber.
I watched 3 Blu-Rays on Sunday:
Notorious: B+ This was actually a pretty decent movie
S. Darko: B- This is the sequel to Donnie Darko (loved that movie). It succeeds in being weird, creepy and confusing ... but not really at anything else. Interesting subject matter (time travel, parallel universes)
Alice in Wonderland: C+ I was pretty dissapointed with this movie. It's too bad I'm done with hard drugs, I think some shrooms could have helped here.
Itheus, if you are looking for an interesting movie on Netflix, check out:
What The Bleep Do We Know!?
I enjoyed it quite a bit. Makes you think.

Netflix has the first 4 seasons of My Name Is Earl in the instant streaming queue.
I enjoy that show.

Netflix instant streaming is the shit. I'm just about ready to start watching Weeds, and just finished up Prison Break. Well worth the $12 a month.

Weeds is a good show but it gets retardedly unrealistic in the later seasons. The first season and the first half of the second season (before she started dating the DEA doucher) were the best, IMO. This is my 500th post, btw but you won't see me starting an entire thread about it.

"The Messenger"....A...captures the Iraq/Iran conflict at home perfectly. Woody is perfect in his role.
"The Wolfman"...D-....putrid...can't believe I spent $5 on it. Only thing that is decent is the scenery, but even that can't save this abortion.

Putting in The Messenger in queue as we speak. I've been wanting to watch it, but couldn't remember what the name of it was.

The Road. Saw it over the weekend.
The wife says it stays fairly true to the book for the most part. Pretty good flick, but don't watch it if you are depressed about anything.

I watched Shutter Island last night. It was a pretty good flick...I wondered a few times where they were going with the movie, but a very solid ending.

A bright sunny day is probably the time to watch it so you can go outside afterward and thank god that it wasn't real.

Yeah. A bright sunny day is probably the time to watch it so you can go outside afterward and thank god that it wasn't real. Very true, I often wonder what we all may become someday, there are too many " what ifs ", this movie/book is a scary portrayal of what our future could very easily be if some enemy group/ country decides to get ballsy ( even though the movie or book doesn't actually says what happened IIRC ).

Watched your standard chick flick with the wife on Sunday, "When in Rome." I would give it a C+ pretty much your typical chick flick that has some really funny parts. I will say other then the funny parts the best part about the movie was how damn hot Kristen Bell looked in it. I am not a huge fan of hers but she looked great in the flick.

I think, sadly, that The Road depicts exactly what would happen to humanity in the event of a nature-killing apocalyptic event. The book is actually far more terrifying than the film and quite a bit more heartbreaking it its depiction of the parent-child relationship. It's realism (or assumed realism as the case may be) was a major contributor to its winning the Pulitzer. As far as the Blind Side is concerned, the football nut in me wants to see it, but the Bullock hater part precludes it.

I agree on your assessment about the book, I don't know how many times after reading a few chapters I would sit and think about life as it now and how ugly it one day could be. The movie cut out some parts of the book ( as most book to movies do ), but they kept the key parts in place which I appreciated, the father dying in the movie was a much faster process than it was in the book, and they didn't search through that ship on the beach in the movie. I thought Robert Duvall was stellar in the movie as well.
