I thought the same thing Bluz. I figured it was going to be overhyped bullshit, but it was actually really good.

I also liked Avatar, even if it did have some kind of used up themes. The special effects were awesome and the plot was good enought to be enjoyable. I'll probably rent it sometime this week.
I watched "How to Train Your Dragon" this weekend, I thought it was pretty cool. It had a decent story good eye candy and didn't have the lame pop-culture references of your Shrek's of the world.
I also watched a movie called "The Experiment". I hadn't heard of it before and there is a reason why, my lady picked it up off the shelf because she thought it might be interesting. It's about this group of 20 or so dudes who sign up for this two week long psychology experiment where a they are in this mock prison and a few of them are guards while the others are prisoners. Like the famous psychology experiment conducted at Stanford University, the guardstarted torturing the "prisoners" and it got out of hand pretty quickly. The acting was bad enought and the story was weak enough I only watched it about half way through. Whoever produced it must have been using Iowa's tax cut for producing movies here as much of the beginning was shot in Des Moines. There was a scene at the State Capital and the High Life.

I watched Jackass 3D last night. I'd give it a B. There were 2-3 scenes that were absolutely fucking hilarious. The rest was pretty much standard Jackass scenarios. Worth watching though. Some of the 3D shots/effects were pretty sweet.

I admit to being a fan of Jackass - those idiots make me giggle uncontrollably.

I saw 'Social Network' a couple of weeks ago. Good movie. There's really no reason to see it in the theater (not much action or eye candy), but will be a solid rental.

My wife and I are going to see Paranormal Activity 2 tomorrow. If it is half as scary as the first one, I will be happy.

Saw PA2 today. It was pretty good - maybe not as good as the first one because we have already seen this stuff but pretty good nonetheless. Unless you are dying to see it in the theater, a rental will like suffice.

My wife and I are going to see Paranormal Activity 2 tomorrow. If it is half as scary as the first one, I will be happy. The wife and I thought the first one was kinda "meh". We found it to be annoyingly predictable. I guess the hype was from it being a different sort of movie and that was cool, but we were both able to guess exactly how it was going to end which was a bit of a let down. We will probably rent PA2 when it comes out, just for the hell of it though. Even a "meh" horror flick is pretty good when you think about it.

That's because the foreshadowing was excessive. I agree with you that it was predictable. I still liked it, though...it did have quite a few moments where it relied on the "make you jump" moments. But I thought the buildup and tension it produced was effective. It's weird because I'm a fan of horror movies, and have seen way too many. I actually thought there were some freaky moments. My wife, who hates horror, didn't think it was scary at all.

I'm looking forward to the new one, but I'll probably wait to rent it.

I'd strongly encourage people to watch a documentary called 'Winnebago Man'. It got glowing reviews (98% on Rotten Tomatoes), the trailer looked kinda interesting...but there's more to it than meets the eye:
Big Itheus seal of approval.

Glad you bumped this thread as I have recently now seen:
The Expendables. Wow. Are the wife and I glad it we only spent money for a rental and didn't see it in the theater. Pretty lame, really. Okay, let me rephrase that. If you enjoy shooting, explosions, and some kung-fu shit now and then... this might be your flick. However, if you need some semblance of a plot and story to go with it... look elsewhere.
The wife hated it too and she pretty much likes about any movie we get. We both think Stallone wrote the entire movie while on the shitter. Jesus Christ, there weren't even any hot titties in this movie. Just incredibly over-rated. However, the explosions and kung-fu shit were pretty good, so I have to still give it a passing grade. C-
Inception: really, I can't say much about this because I fucking dozed off while watching it. Not because it sucked, but because we started watching the thing so late. (fuck off, I'm old)
From what I do remember, it was okay. I like the plot, damned good story. I just missed some of the good special effects and how everything wrapped up.
From what I DID see, I'd give this a B. I might have to rent it again though so I can give it a more accurate grade.

My wife and I had seen his videos. He pre-dated Youtube with VHS tape trading, and was kind of 'rediscovered' by the younger crowd once Youtube hit.
It really wouldn't detract from the documentary if you didn't know him, though.

Renting Tron again (a classic), then am taking daughter to the Sequel. I'm expecting the Sequel to be lame, but then again, I'm pretty hard to impress with all the CGI these days.

My wife and I saw the new Harry Potter movie yesterday and I really liked it. Yes, I am a fan of the movies and yes, I read all the books. The new one is really faithful to the book, if you ask me.

I've been sick as a dog so I've been pretty much confined to my couch watching movies. Here's three more: Oldboy: A South Korean film...one word to describe it...INTENSE. There's plenty of plot twists, almost too many. But in the end it's a movie I won't soon forget. The violence my turn some people off, but this is a film about revenge. "Exit through the Gift Shop" I heard good things about this, and it got great ratings. Unfortunatley I just didn't see the appeal. It follows around street artists...I guess it just didn't excite me too much. "Everything is Illuminated" This one really caught me by surprise. I mainly wanted to watch it because one of the main charectors is the singer from Gogol Bordello. Very different, but I good, good movie. Sick again today, so I'll probably have more to come.

The wife and I watched this over the weekend (On a side note $1.50 BluRay rentals from redbox fucking kick ass) thought it was a very good movie don't get all the awards but a good flick. We also rented Knight and Day with Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz- a ton of action- but horrible movie and story line. And the two of them together just wasn't working. Only watched half of it, I give it a Meh at best.
