Last night I watched "Pirahnas 3D" simply because it was the only moving playing at the movie theater. Other than a 3 minute long part where two really hot women were swimming around fully nude under water this was probably the worst movie I have ever seen. I knew it was supposed to be a corny and whatnot but I had to leave early because it was that awful.
Last week I watched a movie called "Me and You and Everyone You Know" on Netflix. I thought it was a pretty awesome movie with some truly hilarious dialogue. Even if it was kind of artsy and sort of a romance flick I really enjoyed it and would highly reccomend checking it out especially if you have Netflix streaming onto your 360, PS3, whatever.

I'm starting to lose a little faith in Rottentomatoes. It gave Pirahana 3D like a 77%.

Is it scary, or just gory? I love horror movies, but gore without reason bores me. I don't like many, if any, of the "slasher" flicks but stuff like Blair Witch, Paranormal Activity, The Grudge, etc., scare the shit out of me. That's a good thing, BTW. Here's the trailer...see if it's something that interests you: I put it in my Netflix queue. I'll give it a look.

I think it's on instant queue if you don't want to waste a movie sent to you.

I watched it this afternoon - strange little flick. I didn't think the violence was that over-the-top and I was very confused by the flip-flopping there at the end. It kept my interest, though, and was off-beat enough to earn 3 stars.

It kept my interest, though, and was off-beat enough to earn 3 stars. The violence is implied, which sometimes can be worse to leave things to the mind. So it's definitely not over the top, but still kind of mindfuck. I think you can come away feeling a bit vulnerable knowing that there's sick fucks our there, and you wouldn't even know it if you crossed their path (until it's too late). The same director did a movie called "Ichi the Killer" that looks pretty interesting...got good ratings as well. Tonight is "Hot tub Timemachine".

It TOTALLY sucked. It's like they tried to make it suck. How else could you take John Cusack, Rob Corddry and Craig Robinson and make a movie that bad? It HAD to be intentional.

OTOH, who is going to see "Resident Evil: Afterlife?" Hot chick killing zombies. What's not to love about that? I own the other three on DVD and am anxious to see this one - probably next Wednesday.

Saw "Resident Evil" Afterlife" today in the IMAX in 3D. If you liked the first three, you will like this one. It was really, really good and the 3D stuff is pretty impressive. Some film stuff reminiscent of "300" or "The Matrix" was fun. Without spoiling anything, let's just say there will be a fifth movie. This was almost a transition between the last one and the next one.

I've had numerous people tell me I should watch that movie and that I would really like it. I have rented it about 4 times and have it in my netflix queue but for some reason still haven't seen it. Perhaps I should watch it. Cool story, huh?

That will tell me a lot about whether I should see it or not. The reason is that I had about 236 people tell me I should see Boondock Saints and finally saw it. I thought it was rather "meh". Pretty much the same 236 people have mentioned Donnie Darko. So... will I like it?

When I saw it, I had only heard that it was cult classic, and didn't know anything else about it. If I tell you it is the best movie in the world (which it isn't), then you are going to be let down. I can tell you this. It does do a good job of being strange/weird and letting you apply your own interpretation. It also deals with some strange themes that I find fascinating (metaphysical stuff). I almost always enjoy movies that touch on those themes. IMO, it is better then Boon Dock Saints. But BDS is still a good movie.

It's a kind of a cookie cutter cool accent/uber-badass/hip dialogue type of movie in the same vain as Snatch, Lock Stock, and earlier Tarrantino movies. I still think these other movies pulled it off way better and sometimes Boondock Saints seemed like it was trying too hard to be cool. While it doesn't make me like the movie less, I've read the director thought he was the next big thing in Hollywood after that movie and became a pretty big doucher. I'd give it a C+/B-.

You pretty much nailed my opinion of BDS. I thought it was "okay", but certainly not worthy of any hype. Now, Scarface on the other hand.... best fucking movie ever. Hands down. Oh... as for Donnie Darko, I will be sure to rent it. Sounds like something I and the wife would love.

Watched "Loose Change 9/11: An American Coup" yesterday. It's on netflix on the instant section for those of you who have it.
Solid documentary that will definitely make you think. This a 2009 remake of Dylan Avery's original film from 2004. It's much better (and I even liked the first one). Worth watching.

Speaking of documentaries - I saw a good one on Friday. Anvil - The Story of Anvil.
It touches nearly every emotion...and shows how shitty the music industry is today, especially as a smaller market band trying to make it.

Just remembered a couple more:
A documentary - "Blood into Wine"
It's about Maynard Keenan (singer of Tool, A Perfect Circle, Puscifer), and his adventures of making wine on his vineyard in AZ. I'm a big fan of Maynard, and have interest in the processes - I really liked it.
"Charlie Bartlett" - a dorky kid gets popular by selling perscription drugs at school. A couple of amusng moments, but overall I found it to be a yawner.
"Rules of Attraction" -I read read and enjoyed the book by Brett Easton Ellis...but just another movie that's not nearly as good as the book. However provides for a good avatar (see SoCal).

My lady friend watched "Babies" (or something like that), also on the netflix instant queue. She said it shows babies from different places across the world as they develop in their early years. It highlights the vast differences about how different cultures raise their babies.
She highly recommended it, and I will be watching it sometime soon.

Okay, as Mr. Irrelevant, I have to comment on a movie that everybody her has probably seen twice - "Avatar." I thought the trailers looked really fucking stupid and did not buy into all the hype so I didn't care whether I saw it or not, and my wife felt the same way.
We were way off-base.
We saw it last night on Blu-ray when it finally came up on our Netflix queue and it was amazing. Five stars. It caught us completely off-guard. Awesome flick.
